“Ziqi, why are you standing here? Ye’er and his father have gone out to meet with clients, they might not return until very late. I am glad you are here to keep me company, otherwise I’d be bored to death.” Jin Lan rubbed her forehead as she descended the stairs.
Her injury had mostly healed, and she was able to stand up from the wheelchair. However, she still could not walk too fast.
Although the fire hadn’t burnt Jin Lan’s face, it had destroyed most of her hair.
Out of necessity, she had to cut her hair short and curl it. It still looked fashionable, but it aged her.
Each time she saw her hair in the mirror, her resentment towards Qin Youxuan increased a little more.
“I heard from the housekeeper that you have been suffering from insomnia and nightmares recently, so I consulted a doctor. He said drinking a cup of juice before sleep helps. Try this, aunt.” Meng Ziqi poured the juice from the juicer and handed the cup to Jin Lan.
“It’s your favorite apple juice, not only does it aid sleep, it also benefits your complexion.”
“You are so thoughtful. If Ye’er could marry you, it would truly be a blessing for our Qin family.” Looking at Meng Ziqi, who was still diligently making juice for her late in the evening, Jin Lan couldn’t be more pleased.
Ever since being kidnapped, Jin Lan had been plagued by frequent insomnia and nightmares.
When she wasn’t staying awake all night, she was having endless nightmares.
The doctor had stated that it was due to the significant shock she had experienced, leaving a psychological shadow that would take some time to diminish and eventually disappear.
Hearing Meng Ziqi’s concern for her health, Jin Lan was deeply moved.
She took the juice and drank it down to the last drop.
“It’s late. It’s not safe for a girl to go home alone. Come to my room and chat with me. When Ye’er comes back, I’ll have him take you home.” After putting down the cup, Jin Lan took Meng Ziqi’s hand. She intended to go upstairs.
Meng Ziqi glimpsed at the empty cup on the table, her eyes flashing. She withdrew her hand from Jin Lan’s, “Aunt, go ahead, I’ll just clean up the cup.”
“Your hands aren’t made for menial work . If your parents found out, they’d say the Qin family is treating guests poorly. Let the servants deal with it tomorrow morning.” Jin Lan looked at her empty palm. After a moment of surprise, she chided gently.
“…It’s only washing a cup, it’s not hard. I feel embarrassed always troubling the housekeeper.” As Meng Ziqi spoke, she lowered her head obediently.
“Such a sweet child you are, but you might be taken advantage of. Alright, I won’t force it. I’ll wait for you upstairs.” As Jin Lan’s waist hadn’t fully recovered, she couldn’t stand for too long. She held her waist and left first.
Meng Ziqi quickly grabbed the cup and rinsed it thoroughly under the faucet.
She washed the juicer as well. She shook her hand, sweating profusely from the tension.
She leaned on the bathroom sink, panting.
Her beautifully made up eyes gleamed with a hint of viciousness. She murmured to herself, “Qin Youxuan, you forced me to this. Don’t blame me…”
The night grew darker.
The clock was nearing ten, but Qin Mo and Jin Chenye had not returned.
The door to the master bedroom was slowly pulled open.
In the dim light, Jin Lan, with her hair loose and wearing slippers, stepped out of the room.
Her vacant eyes stared straight ahead, uttering a name under her breath as she walked towards Qin Youxuan’s room.
Her movements were stiff, like a robot.
Behind her, Meng Ziqi balled her hands into fists, her eyes gleaming dangerously.
