“Auntie, what’s happening? Xuan, get out of the way!” Meng Ziqi’s eyes flashed dangerously, suddenly charging out from the shadows.
With arms open wide, she firmly embraced Qin Youxuan from behind.
Upon hearing the commotion, Qin Youxuan instinctively turned around, conveniently placing Meng Ziqi in front of her.
“I’m going to kill you!” Meng Ziqi felt a chill down her spine and before she had time to react, Jin Lan’s specter-like voice sounded.
The gleaming fruit knife pierced her body; warm blood splashed onto Jin Lan’s face.
Jin Lan instantly snapped out of her daze, her eyes wide open in shock as she stared at the blood-covered Meng Ziqi, retreating in fright.
“How could this happen… I’ve killed someone… ”
“Ziqi! Ziqi, how are you? Hang in there, I’ll call an ambulance.” Qin Youxuan was stunned by the sudden turn of events. She held Meng Ziqi’s collapsing body with trembling hands, fearful that the knife might penetrate deeper.
Blood continuously flowed from Meng Ziqi’s back, quickly staining Qin Youxuan’s hands, incapable of being stopped.
“Help! Someone!” Qin Youxuan cried hoarsely, her eyes glancing over Jin Lan who had retreated to the edge of the stairs, tensing, “Watch out!”
Before Qin Youxuan’s words had fully left her mouth, Jin Lan had missed a step, tumbling straight down the stairs.
She hit the wall at the bottom, blacking out.
The butler, finally alerted by the commotion, slowly made his way to the stairwell. He stared in shock at Jin Lan lying on the ground.
Looking up, he saw the bloodied Meng Ziqi in Qin Youxuan’s arms, Qin Youxuan herself grasping the knife handle, her face pale and speechless.
“Quick! Call an ambulance!” Qin Youxuan cried hoarsely in relief.
Jin Chenye entered the room one step earlier than Qin Mo, seeing Jin Lan on the ground, quickly picking her up.
After scanning the chaotic scene, his eyes fell on the bloodstains on the ground, his pupils constricting.
He quickly put Jin Lan in the car, then turned back and walked to the stunned Qin Youxuan.
“Blood, a lot of blood, save her…” Qin Youxuan couldn’t care less who she was addressing, babbling as she grabbed Jin Chenye’s hand.
“…Leave her to me.” His teeth gritted, Jin Chenye took the unconscious Meng Ziqi from her arms and quickly left.
Everyone in the Qin family mansion was startled.
All the lights were turned on.
And then the house was utterly empty.
Qin Youxuan sat alone on the floor, unable to recover from the sudden catastrophe.
Soon, a uniformed police officer stood before her, the gloss of his black leather shoes even more glaring than the lights.
“Miss Qin, we suspect that you are involved in a murder case. We would appreciate your cooperation in coming with us.”
“It was not me who killed!”
Qin Youxuan immediately defended herself, still confused as to what had happened.
Why did Jin Lan try to kill her out of the blue, and even though Meng Ziqi resented her for stealing Jin Chenye, why did she suddenly jump out to save her…
“There were only three of you at the scene. Two are critically injured and you are the only one unharmed. Miss Qin, please cooperate with our investigation.”
