Chapter 227: The Smarter the Woman, the Earlier She Dies
As Yao finished speaking, Dan Hanjie strode in.
His long legs wrapped in black trousers, his matching black shirt accentuated his perfect face, giving it a cold and fierce touch. His every gesture exuded an unmatched aristocracy.
Each step, felt like it was stepping on people’s hearts.
“Mr. Jie,” Yao quickly walked up and stood by his side.
“Ji-Jie…” Meng Ziqi stared blankly at the man who had walked in, her eyes suddenly enlarged.
Her hands nervously gripped the armrests of her wheelchair.
Dan Hanjie gave her a cool glance, then elegantly proceeded to the sofa and sat down.
He unbuttoned his suit coat and leaned back into the cushion.
With one hand clenched at his temple, he languidly glanced in the direction of a nervous Meng Ziqi.
“You’re very clever, but has anyone ever told you that very clever women die early?” The sound of Dan Hanjie’s voice was as cold as ice water dripping off a mountaintop, chilling to the core.
“The wound on your back, was given by Jin Lan.”
“Mr. Jie…” Meng Ziqi, nervous to the point of standing up from her wheelchair, pulled at her wound and sank back down. Her eyes chaotic she stammered,” I-I don’t know what you’re talking about, the person who stabbed me is Qin Youxuan.”
Having said that, she looked nervously at Dan Hanjie. He had suddenly summoned her. Was it to exonerate Qin Youxuan, to force her to retract her accusation?
How could she possibly let Qin Youxuan go!
“Qin Youxuan… didn’t you always call her ‘sister’? Why are you suddenly so distant?” Dan Hanjie asked indifferently, extending his long finger and placing it on the armrest of the sofa.
Meng Ziqi had never seen a man with such great temperament, so much so she momentarily forgot to speak.
“She tried to kill me, how could she possibly still be my good sister? Qin Youxuan, she changed a long time ago… Mr. Jie, did you ask me out today because you want to mediate between us sisters?” Meng Ziqi carefully ventured.
In her heart, she was quickly calculating how to refuse.
“Sisters? You would only tarnish that word.” Dan Hanjie scoffed, his bewitching eyes showing a glimpse of mockery.
A woman who wouldn’t get the message until she’d seen the coffin.
Dan Hanjie shot a glance at Yao, who quickly stepped forward and placed a bill in front of Meng Ziqi.
“Miss Meng, you should be familiar with these items. In front of Mr. Jie, it’s best not to dodge what’s clear. Otherwise, you could face a dire situation even without a court trial,” Yao reminded indifferently, then withdrew to one side.
Meng Ziqi stared at the bill placed on her lap, her eyes contracted, her face turned pale as a sheet.
She balled the bill up in her hand, “These are just receipts for the things I’ve bought, what can they prove?”
“Denying it till the end,” Yao ridiculed.
“Spirit Departure Powder is not an ordinary item, Miss Meng. Please don’t tell me you bought it for your own consumption.”
“Of-of course not.” Meng Ziqi clutched her chest, forcing herself to calm down, “I just heard that there was such a strange item in Thailand. So, I asked someone to buy me a bottle out of curiosity. Everyone has curiosity, that shouldn’t be a crime.”
Having said that, she nervously looked at Dan Hanjie, his silent figure was even more fierce and intimidating.
“So, Miss Meng, your Spirit Departure Powder must still be intact since you haven’t used it, right?” Yao took a step forward, his tone turned cold.
“…I accidentally broke it. It’s gone. How could I keep such a harmful thing intact?” Meng Ziqi quickly replied, too scared to look anyone in the eyes.
