Chapter 356: Your Favorite Flavor

It wasn’t until Qin Youxuan turned thirteen that she suddenly received news of that man’s death. Unable to handle the shock, she committed suicide, leaving her daughter behind.
“Mom, do you have any regrets?”
“When you left me, did you ever consider how I would cope with everything…”
Qin Youxuan looked at all the familiar things in front of her, her emotions complicated.
She hadn’t forgotten that she was no longer the daughter of the Qin Family, and technically had no relation to Qin Mo. She had no right to enjoy the privileges of Miss Qin.
The person she had hated for so many years turned out to be a victim of societal hierarchy herself.
All of a sudden, Qin Youxuan felt as though all of her strength had been sucked out of her. She could only collapse on the bed, staring blankly at this unfamiliar world, and her unfamiliar self.
Perhaps, she owed Jin Chenye an apology too.
There was a sudden knock on the door.
“Coming.” Qin Youxuan hesitated for a second, then managed to respond. She turned over to sit up on the bed and straightened out her wrinkled clothes.
She got off the bed, walked to the door, and opened it.
“You didn’t sleep all night?”
Jin Chenye was standing at the door, a whole head taller than Qin Youxuan. It was easy for him to notice the dark circles under her eyes. He frowned.
He was donned in a simple white shirt and matching white casual pants that day, appearing relaxed and handsome.
He was holding a tray of food in his hands.
“I guessed you might have trouble sleeping. Staying up all night tends to give you a headache, so I prepared some food and a bowl of Calming Soup for you. Try to sleep after eating, you’ll feel better when you wake up.”
Jin Chenye spoke casually, not waiting for Qin Youxuan’s reply before stepping into her room.
He put the food on the table, turned around, and looking at Qin Youxuan standing motionlessly by the door, raised his eyebrow, “Aren’t you coming over to eat? What are you standing there for?”
“Don’t worry, I didn’t put any ginger in the soup. It has the flavour you loved when we were in the U.S.”
Qin Youxuan robotically walked over to the table, her gaze fixed on the food before her.
The soup smelled delicious – a familiar aroma.
Qin Youxuan could recognise it in an instant. It was the Calming Soup that Jin Chenye used to prepare for her whenever she had trouble sleeping.
From being disdainful at first, it became her favourite.
When Meng Ziqi first arrived in the U.S., she often boasted about having a boyfriend who was a great cook.
Little did she know that her best friend would fall for her boyfriend because of this.
“I thought you would despise me or hate me… Jin Chenye, if it wasn’t for me, your mother wouldn’t have had to wait all these years, and you wouldn’t have been…”
Before Qin Youxuan could finish speaking, her lips were covered by a warm large hand.
Jin Chenye’s gaze was unusually calm as he slightly curled the corner of his lips, “You’ll never know how much I wanted this situation to happen since the day I found out we are half-siblings.”
Jin Chenye released her, took a step forward until his body was almost against hers.
The faint mint smell from Jin Chenye filled Qin Youxuan’s nostrils. It used to smell good, but now she felt inexplicably repulsed. Instinctively wanting to back away, she found herself being pulled closer by Jin Chenye.
“Xuan, you don’t need to think about anything, you don’t owe me anything. Let the past be the past. What we need to think about is the future.”
