Seeing his brows slightly furrowed, Qin Youxuan couldn’t help but want to soothe him.
As she was about to reach out, his devilishly charming eyes flickered open, gazing straight at her.
Qin Youxuan’s hand paused mid-air, forgetting to retract it, she looked guiltily at him, “Did I wake you up?”
“No, stay with me for a while longer.”
With a faint pursing of his lips, Dan Hanjie pulled her into his embrace, and closed his eyes again.
Knowing that he was truly exhausted, Qin Youxuan did not dare to fidget anymore.
Only after confirming he was asleep, did she stealthily climb out of bed.
She picked up the soothing fragrance from the butler, hurried back to the room, and lit it.
Seeing Dan Hanjie deeply asleep, not startled by her departure, she breathed a long sigh of relief. Rising from the bed, she turned and left the room.
Yao was waiting in the living room. Upon seeing Qin Youxuan descending the stairs, he promptly greeted her respectfully.
“Sit down, I have something to ask you.”
Qin Youxuan sat down on the couch, had the butler pour two cups of tea, and pushed one in front of Yao.
Steam wafted from the uncovered teacup.
Yao glanced at it but didn’t move, “What would you like to know, madam?”
“You don’t have to be formal. The people we care about, don’t give two hoots about status. Sit down and speak freely.” Qin Youxuan took a sip of her tea, then upon some thought, replaced the lid, not touching it again.
Yao responded respectfully and sat on the couch.
“What do you think are the odds that Bai Huo is still alive?” Qin Youxuan didn’t like to beat around the bush, so she asked directly.
She didn’t know Bai Huo, nor did she care about his life or death. However, she knew that his existence was a thorn in Dan Hanjie’s side and right now, it was evident someone was using this thorn against Dan Hanjie. She couldn’t pretend to be oblivious.
“If Mr. Jie knew that you cared for him , he would be thrilled.” Yao’s gaze flickered with sincerity.
Qin Youxuan’s hand, resting on her lap, tightened convulsively, and she bit her lip.
“Madam, if someone could truly harm Mr. Jie, then that person has to be you because he pays close attention to your every move. A frown, a smile, they all affect his mood…” Yao silently pursed his lips.
“I’ve been beside Mr. Jie for many years, and I have never seen him as lost as he is right now. He wants to be closer to you but he is afraid of your rejection. His absentmindedness these days surpasses the total number of times in all the years I was beside him. This situation is risky.”
Qin Youxuan was taken aback. She lowered her gaze to the steaming cup of tea and stared into it.
She knew what Yao was getting at.
Dan Hanjie had a unique status and was always under threat.
Yet, he was frequently distracted because of her. If he were to be ambushed during these moments of absentmindedness, he could likely lose his life.
Qin Youxuan nodded gently. Seeing Yao heave a sigh of relief, she then lifted her gaze to look at him.
“As to the matter of Mr. Bai, I cannot be sure right now. The events of that year were too unpredictable. Nobody expected the presence of a sniper. In a flash, Mr. Bai selflessly took the bullet for Mr. Jie. The bullet hit his heart directly, he died before he could utter a word.”
Such a sudden incident, if it wasn’t predicted in advance, indeed meant Bai Huo had genuinely saved Dan Hanjie’s life. No wonder Dan Hanjie kept it a secret from her to protect Bai Wei.
The light in Qin Youxuan’s eyes dimmed. She concealed her emotions, thought for a moment, and asked again.
“So, how was Bai Huo’s body handled after his death?”
