Diwu Zexuan paused for a moment, looking at her. “The natural scent you give off is unusual. Perhaps, for Jie, this smell could calm his mind.”
“…So that’s why he said I was his antidote.”
The glint in Qin Youxuan’s eyes flickered, her gaze filled with loneliness.
She used to mind that she was merely a remedy for his insomnia. However, when she saw him collapsing, she felt extremely grateful that she could still be of such use, able to bring him comfort.
“Exactly, without you, he can’t sleep at all. Based on his behaviour, it’s apparent he doesn’t desire sleep.” Diwu Zexuan’s tone was laced with a hint of irritation. Clearly, his attempts at persuasion had been ineffective.
“I will try my best.” Qin Youxuan let go, mentally prepared, she opened the door and stepped out of the car.
“You don’t need to be so nervous. When push comes to shove, I’ll lend you a hand, so you don’t die prematurely.”
If even the woman chosen by Dan Hanjie proved to be ineffective, Diwu Zexuan anticipated he would be in for quite a headache in the following days.
Thus, before he could come up with a new strategy, nothing must happen to Qin Youxuan.
Qin Youxuan clearly discerned his thoughts and gritted her teeth, “Thank you…for your entire family!”
Diwu Zexuan smirked, shrugged indifferently, slid his hands into his pockets and walked away.
However, when they reached the top-floor executive area, they discovered that Dan Hanjie was not there at all.
“Mr. Jie left early this morning, it seems like he returned to Yujing Villa.”
Qin Youxuan had just reached the reception desk when she saw Secretary Chen coming out from the office. Upon seeing her, he was noticeably taken aback before he respectfully spoke up.
She let out a startled whisper. Turning her gaze towards Diwu Zexuan, the look of disgust in her eyes was apparent.
He had told her that Dan Hanjie hadn’t closed his eyes for two days, and now he had gone back to the villa first thing in the morning. She hoped he hadn’t gone back to look after Da Bai!
“Madam, Mr. Jie only left after receiving a phone call. I suspect something must have happened at the villa.”
Seeing the astonishment on Qin Youxuan’s face, Secretary Chen hastened to explain.
The look of helplessness and fatigue was clear on his face, “Mr. Jie has spent the last two days reassessing the entire group. He’s like an inspection task force, restructuring the group and laying off a significant number of employees. Many loyal old employees have been caught in his reign of suspicion and were forced out of the group. There’s now a great feeling of unease amongst the workforce.”
Secretary Chen pursed his lips in concern and looked at Qin Youxuan, “Madam, if you can, please persuade Mr. Jie. If this continues, I fear there will be a major upheaval.”
Persuade him? He doesn’t even want her anymore, how can she persuade him?
“I understand. I’ll do my best.”
The light in Qin Youxuan’s eyes flickered slightly. Without lingering, she turned around and left.
Upon exiting the skyscraper that housed the Dan Group, Qin Youxuan halted, raising her hand to shield her eyes from the overhead glare. She narrowed her eyes to look at the giant letters SHAN on the outside of the building.
It was as if she was watching the rise of a kingdom and also witnessing it undergo trials and tribulations…
Diwu Zexuan pulled up in his sports car and rolled down the window.
Without hesitation, Qin Youxuan got into the car. The two of them quickly sped off in the direction of Yujing Villa.
Dan Hanjie was engulfed in the couch, with his long legs, dressed in black suit trousers, elegantly crossed over one another.
