“Don’t be rash. There’s likely an ambush inside. Divide into four teams and search from every direction,” Dan Hanjie ordered, his cool face betraying no surplus emotion. His sharp eyes narrowed slightly as he advanced.
Yao’s face successfully shrouded its joy, as he turned back to give orders, “Team one and two, flank from left to right, team three and four, enter from front to back. Maintain constant communication. A thorough sweep is a must.”
The group was split into four smaller ones, beginning their search of the line of wooden houses at the entrance of the mountain.
Finally, they found something abnormal in the back of one of the houses.
“Mr. Jie, the arrangement of planks on this house is off—there’s more nails than in the previous houses—and it’s connected to the mountain at the back. Looks like there’s a secret room behind it with abundant extra space, thanks to the suspension.”
“Find the mechanism. If you can’t find it in a minute, blow the door open.” Dan Hanjie’s thin lips parted slightly.
Not wasting time, he quickly walked over to the wall closest to the mountain, squinting his eyes in a swift assessment.
Soon enough, he noticed something amiss in the alignment of a line of nails.
He reached up to pull out three tightly-knitted nails.
The wooden wall began to retract from the bottom, revealing a door that led to a secret room behind the house.
As soon as the secret door was opened, the crisp sound of gunshots echoed.
“Mr. Jie, be careful!”
Yao instantly threw himself in front of Dan Hanjie, trying to shield him from the impending bullets, only to be forcefully pulled back by Dan Hanjie.
Everyone exclaimed, their eyes wide with surprise at the sudden turn of events.
Yao, who was shoved aside by Dan Hanjie, clenched his teeth in frustration.
Moments before impact, Dan Hanjie smoothly dropped to one knee, narrowly dodging the bullet as it grazed his shoulder, leaving behind a streak of blood.
Getting back on his feet and pressing his hand on the wound, Dan Hanjie glared at Yao, “I’ve told you before, I won’t allow anyone else to die for me, understood!?”
“That’s an order!” Dan Hanjie roared, “If this happens again, even if you don’t die, I’ll shoot you myself!”
Yao’s eyes glistening slightly, he quickly got up and respectfully returned to Dan Hanjie’s side.
His subordinates soon returned from the chase.
“Mr. Jie, it wasn’t a secret room inside, but a hidden escape tunnel. The enemy has left through another exit!”
As furious as he was, Dan Hanjie wasted no time leaving the wooden house.
Only at the boundaries of Fico City did they manage to fully intercept the fugitives.
Controlled by someone else, Bai Wei’s eyes filled with intensity at seeing Dan Hanjie approach. She screamed in excitement, “I knew you’d find me.”
The man holding her in control let out a dark growl, the barrel of a gun against her back.

Slowly, he took his hand from his bleeding shoulder, the crimson on his palm reflecting in his eyes.
