Just as she was about to explain to Qin Youxuan, a beep sounded.
Her nerves tingled sharply.
She raced towards Jiang Jinchen’s sickbed.
Arriving at the door, she found Dan Hanjie had already pressed the call bell, with doctors rushing over.
“Xuan, is he going to wake up?” Ning Yanan ran to Jiang Jinchen’s bedside, watched the doctors executing emergency treatment, and grabbed Qin Youxuan’s hand.
She was so nervous her grip hurt Qin Youxuan’s hand, but she didn’t notice.
“He will wake up.” Qin Youxuan nodded solemnly, looking towards the sickbed with the same hopeful anticipation.
She met Dan Hanjie’s deep, black eyes, tried to muster a smile, but couldn’t.
“The patient’s life signs are starting to stabilise. If there are no major complications, he’ll wake up soon,” the doctor said cheerfully, removing his stethoscope from around his neck.
In the intensive care unit, everyone breathed a collective sigh of relief.
Overwhelmed with excitement, Qin Youxuan turned around and hugged a surprised Ning Yanan.
“Yaya, did you hear that? The doctor said he will wake up soon, he’s okay… I knew that kid was too resilient, even the devil would refuse him…”
Qin Youxuan’s eyes misted with tears as she rambled on excitedly.
“Xuan, he’s going to wake up…” Ning Yanan murmured, clearly not yet recovered from the huge surprise.
Qin Youxuan nodded vigorously, “Yes, he’s going to wake up. He’s okay!”
“I’m going to see him.”
Ning Yanan freed herself from Qin Youxuan’s grip and walked over to Jiang Jinchen, who was lying on the sickbed.
He was still sleeping, but his complexion was much better.
His eyelashes would occasionally flutter, as if about to open his eyes, but then he would be still again.
The doctors all exited the ward.
Inside the ward, Dan Hanjie held Qin Youxuan while Ning Yanan tightly gripped Jiang Jinchen’s hand, waiting for the moment he would awaken.
Even though they didn’t know exactly when the doctor’s ‘soon’ would be, no one left.
Everyone held their breath.
The dawn light soon bathed the sky in a pinkish glow.
The warm sunlight shone onto the glass window, a new day full of infinite hope had begun.
Ning Yanan felt a movement in the hand she was holding and looked up to meet Jiang Jinchen’s long, peach blossom eyes.
His deep black eyes held a hint of confusion just after awakening.
“Xuan, he’s awake! He’s awake!” Ning Yanan shouted excitedly, even forgetting to press the call bell to notify the doctor.
Qin Youxuan gave a start, barely standing up, before she was pulled by Dan Hanjie.
Seeing Jiang Jinchen’s open eyes, they smiled at each other.
Everything is alright.
The doctor came in quickly and gave him a thorough examination again.
“The patient is now out of danger. He can be transferred to a VIP ward for further treatment very soon. He can be discharged once the injuries have healed,” said the doctor respectfully to Dan Hanjie.
Seeing Dan Hanjie had no other instructions, the doctor finally turned and left.
“You’re a lucky fellow.”
Qin Youxuan walked closer, feigned a fist at Jiang Jinchen’s chest, “Once you’re better, I’ll deal with you.”
Jiang Jinchen moved his lips to say something, but the effort pulled at his wound, and he frowned.
“The bullet went through your lung, it hurts even to breathe now, there’s no need for you to put on a brave act. If anything happened to you, I’m afraid my Yaya would have followed you,” Qin Youxuan teased, casting a sidelong glance at Ning Yanan.
