“Why would there be police there?” Dan Hanjie’s eyes tightened, reflecting a touch of danger.
“I’m just as surprised. Although the place isn’t remote, that’s precisely why the large quantity of unloaded goods wouldn’t attract much attention. Who would have thought that, before our men could even make a move, the police had already received a tip and arrived on the scene,” replied his subordinate.
Feeling guilty, Yao lowered his head.
The shipment delivered to Washington via customs was a batch of military hardware, crucial for their upcoming deployment to Japan. Now that it was destroyed, if they couldn’t replace it promptly, their mission in Japan would become drastically more difficult.
Dan Hanjie narrowed his eyes slightly but didn’t say anything. He walked past Yao and strode towards the door.
Their car quickly left the private villa, heading towards the customs department.
By the time Dan Hanjie arrived at the customs exit, the chaotic scene had yet to subside.
A large number of armed police had blocked off the perimeter of customs, and a flock of reporters who had received news of the incident were stalled outside.
“Mr. Jie, it seems that we can’t get in, we’ll have to find another way around this,” Yao said carefully, noticing the increasing size of the crowd.
Dan Hanjie glanced at the sea, where numerous frogmen were still diving to salvage the destroyed goods. If anything substantive was discovered, the detained individuals were doomed.
“Wait until nightfall. Have someone clean this place up without leaving any trace of evidence. As for the detainees, arrange for lawyers for them. Insist that this is merely a simple explosion accident. Claim these goods were merely steel that faced an unexpected accident en route, and make sure no leaks occur. Otherwise, we’ll face endless woes in the future.”
“I understand,” Yao said, nodding. He was about to say something when he saw Ning Yanan approaching. “Miss Ning.”
“I thought I was mistaken when I saw you. What are you doing here, Mr. Jie? There just happened to be an accidental explosion. The place is crawling with police; you can’t get in.”
Dan Hanjie simply said two words, glanced at the work pass hanging on Ning Yanan’s neck next to her camera, and narrowed his eyes.
“How far can this pass get you?”
Ning Yanan hesitated, then glanced down at the work pass on her chest, understanding what he meant.
She pointed at an area quite close to the incident, “The media is allowed over there, but it’s still a little far from the explosion.”
“What?” Ning Yanan was stunned once again.
Dan Hanjie almost never spoke to her, and now he was speaking concisely, saying things she hadn’t expected. Slightly hesitating for a moment, Ning Yanan then reached up to unclip her work pass from around her neck.
Handing it to him, “Mr. Jie, what do you plan on using this for?”
Dan Hanjie did not answer her question. Looping the work pass around his neck, he turned around and began to walk towards the police line.
Ning Yanan, consumed by curiosity, attempted to follow him but was held back by Yao. “Miss Ning, we can’t go in there. We might as well wait here.”
“But I’m dying to know what Mr. Jie’s doing inside. His cold demeanor…he’s so attractive!” Ning Yanan couldn’t help but take another look at Dan Hanjie, who had already disappeared into the crowd. She sighed as she turned her head back.
Yao stared at her, confused.
It was rumored that Ning Yanan had a crush on Jiang Jinchen, but now Jiang Jinchen was taken back to the Jiang Family and was soon to be engaged.
