Resume Sightseeing (4)
The tour of the cathedral ended as originally planned.
The girls enjoyed exploring the cathedral to their heart’s content, while the adults sat back and relaxed.
When Illuna and the others were sufficiently satisfied, they moved on to the museum next door.
This museum was also large and spacious, and it seemed to contain a good number of works of art.
However, to be honest, I was not as excited as I initially was.
The reason was simple: I didn’t have the sensibility to understand art.
I apologize. Truly apologize. I just didn’t understand art…
When I saw a Picasso painting, I never got the hidden message. I just felt that it was a weird painting. Even when I saw avant-garde objects or abstract arts, the only reaction I had was something like, “Hmm…?”
“Is this… Is this really that wonderful?” (Lefi)
“It’s wonderful, I’m sure. That’s why it’s on display here.” (Yuki)
Lefi looked at the same painting, tilting her head with an expression similar to mine.
“…Oh, Yuki, aren’t these and other paintings over here beautiful?” (Nell)
“Oh, yes, they are beautiful. Landscape paintings are easy to understand, right?” (Yuki)
“Yeah… It is good that they are easy to understand. The pictures of the old man’s house look like a piece of junk to me, however.” (Lefi)
“Shush, don’t say that. But I agree.” (Yuki)
We looked at Illuna and the others, who seemed to be enjoying the museum, and at Nell and Lyuu, who seemed to be having a good time looking at the paintings and talking about them.
“…Maybe we don’t have the capability to enjoy art.” (Lefi)
“…I guess so.” (Yuki)
As the two of us were talking, Layla giggled and interjected.
“You two don’t have to think so hard. It’s only because others think it has value that the object has value. So, you can find something you like by thinking, ‘It’s beautiful,’ or ‘It somehow leaves an impression on me’. In some extreme cases, if everyone who sees a pebble starts saying, ‘This is a wonderful thing!’ then it would also be accepted as something wonderful.” (Layla) ř𝒶ŊọΒÊꞩ
“Hmmm, I see… So, Layla, do you have a favorite out of these paintings?” (Yuki)
“I thought this one was good…” (Layla)
“Heh? …It’s an unsettling picture to look at.” (Yuki)
Layla liked the painting simply because the man in the picture was looking at her.
But whether it was the coloring or the eyes that didn’t seem to know what they were looking at, it was frankly creepy.
It was not a horror picture, but I would scream if I saw it at night. To be honest, I would not say that the image was created in good taste.
