A Love I Shouldn't Feel Chapter 171

Yamashita Corporation, Okinawa Branch – Main Office

The morning light poured through the sleek glass windows, casting long shadows across the polished conference table.

Haruki stood at the head, a tablet in one hand, his other tucked casually into his pocket.

His posture was relaxed—but his presence, as always, commanded attention.

Across from him, Branch Chief Kajima stood with a polite bow, hands neatly folded.

"Alright, Branch Chief Kajima," Haruki said, giving one final glance to the project report displayed on the tablet.

"Everything looks good. Training metrics are excellent, employee feedback has improved, and the new SOP rollout was smooth."

"Yes, Mister Nakagawa. We’re glad you came. Your presence really motivated the team."

Haruki smiled faintly.

"I’ll be heading back to Tokyo after this week. The objectives here are complete."

He handed over a document folder—an internal handover checklist.

"I’m leaving this branch in your hands," Haruki continued.

"Maintain the momentum. You’ve got a strong team. Just keep pushing quality over speed."

Kajima bowed again, this time more deeply.

"Understood, sir. We’ll continue what you’ve built here."

Haruki nodded, pleased.

Then he turned, walking toward the panoramic window that overlooked the sea in the distance.

He could almost see the quiet coastline where his seaside house sat.

Where Kyouko was waiting.

His expression softened.

Three more days of waking up beside her.

Of hearing her call him "darling" in that soft, half-whispered tone.

Of pretending, if only for a while, that they were truly husband and wife.

Then it would be back to Tokyo.

Back to the world where their love had to hide behind closed doors.

It really felt like a moment.

Like a blink of an eye.

He had come to Okinawa for work—routine training, another corporate assignment.

But instead, he found something he didn’t expect.

He was able to live with her.

For more than two months.

Waking up to her soft smile.

Eating meals she prepared with such quiet care.

Hearing her voice—gentle, calming—in the morning light.

Watching her move through the house, her presence filling every empty corner of his heart.

And it wasn’t just her.

He had been with her family.

He had laughed with her father.

Shared sake with her family.

Watched the ease and joy of a family that cared.

They didn’t care about his background, his wealth, his title in Yamashita Corporation.

They cared that he showed up.

For the first time in a long time, Haruki had tasted something he never really knew he wanted:

Soon, he would go back to Tokyo.

Back to the city where every smile was calculated.

Where the weight of titles returned.

Where he was a husband only in name.

But he wouldn’t go alone.

Kyouko would be beside him.

And somehow, that made it bearable.

Even if the walls closed in again...

Even if they had to act like strangers in their own home...

He would have those memories.

And maybe, just maybe...

He could find a way to protect what they’d built here.

He knew once he returned to Tokyo...

He’d still be living under the same roof with Kyouko.

He’d still be able to steal moments with her—

Moments to make love when the house was silent...

Moments to taste her cooking fresh off the stove...

Moments to catch her smiling softly while wiping her hands on an apron.

That would be enough for most.

Because there was one thing he knew he couldn’t have again.

He wouldn’t be able to sleep beside her.

Not without risking suspicion.

Not without doors closed and footsteps hushed.

He wouldn’t be able to hold her in the middle of the night.

To reach out and feel her breath on his chest.

To wrap his arm around her waist and pull her close, skin to skin, heart to heart.

He wouldn’t be able to wake up to the quiet warmth of her body curled against his.

No soft "good morning" whispered against his lips.

No sleepy kiss brushed against her shoulder.

No lazy mornings tangled in sheets and quiet laughter.

Tokyo would take that away.

The roles would return.

The walls would go up.

And the beautiful illusion they had built in this quiet seaside life...

Would fold into secrecy once more.

Haruki stepped out of the office.

He didn’t need to pack anything from the office.

Everything had already been organized.

Soon, Chief Kajima would take over.

The hallway lights cast soft reflections on the polished floor as he made his way toward the lobby.

From behind the reception counter, a few of the female staff glanced over—eyes drawn, as always, to the quiet, composed figure in the sleek black suit.

Tall. Calm. Handsome.

They whispered softly, smiling.

But Haruki didn’t notice.

His mind was elsewhere.

Only one name echoed in his thoughts.

Today, she would be packing their things.

Folding the clothes they’d both worn during their months together.

Organizing the toiletries, the books, the little bits of life they’d quietly shared.

Their shared memories from the past few months in that seaside house.

Tomorrow, they’d return to the Kitayama residence for one final night—

To drink, to laugh, surrounded by laughter, by sake, by the warmth of true family.

And the day after that...

Back to their hidden life.

Back to roles they had to pretend to carry again.

Haruki stopped near the edge of the street, facing the soft ocean breeze.

A bittersweet smile touched his lips.

Everything he shared with her here—

It was too precious to leave behind as just a memory.

He reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone.

Scrolling through his contacts, he found the name he was looking for.

He tapped the number.

Waited as the dial tone echoed in his ear.

"Hello, Mister Yamashita."

His voice was calm. Certain.

There was a brief pause on the line.

Haruki looked out toward the sea.
