Yun Shen pursed his lips, "Mom, please don’t ask anymore."
"Why can’t I ask? If you don’t give me an explanation, I’m going to stay at the company today and not leave. Do you think it’s easy for me to want to hold a grandson?"
Yun Shen, exhausted, lifted his hand to rub his temples, "Fine, then I’ll tell you. Apart from Yun Ya and Yun Miao, it’s impossible for me to have children in this lifetime."
Yun Shu’s eyes darkened, "Why?"
Yun Shen suddenly looked up at her, his thin lips curving into a mocking smile, "There’s no why. If you really want to know, I can give you a reason—because I hate children."
Yun Shu narrowed her eyes at him, "What else are you hiding from me?"
Yun Shen let out a cold laugh, "I am entirely under your control; what could possibly be hidden from you?"
"In the end, it’s all because of that woman. You think that aside from her, no woman is worthy of bearing your children. You’re still so stubborn, simply the number one fool in the world."
Yun Shen suddenly stood up, "Yes, I am a fool, which is why I’ve been used by you like a puppet on strings for so many years. You’ve destroyed my emotions, my life, and I don’t want my children to be used by you. You are a woman malicious to the core; why should I allow my children to be born and suffer because of you?"
Yun Shu let out a cold laugh, "See, you’ve finally spoken your true feelings. Yun Shen, all these years, this is how you’ve really thought of me in your heart." She walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, overlooking the bustling city below.
"Standing here every day, what do you think about? Who gave you all this? You’ve enjoyed it, now you’re tired of it, and you remember to resent me. If it weren’t for me, do you think you could have all this? Power, fame, money, status—you would be nothing. You might have been hauling bricks on a construction site, begging on the streets, or hoeing the fields in the countryside. You enjoy everything I’ve given you, yet you secretly blame and resent me in your heart. Don’t you find that ironic?"
It’s undeniable that Yun Shu’s words hit right home; Yun Shen’s face turned pale, and he bit his lip without making a sound.
Yun Shu suddenly turned around, her gaze sharp, "So, everyone in the world might have the right to hate me, but you, of all people, have the least right to do so."
Yun Shen’s complexion was pale, and his figure swayed.
His own son, whom Yun Shu knew better than anyone, was just like her in his bones—hypocritical and selfish, but similarly cowardly enough to shun reality.
"Shenshen, you don’t understand your mom, and I don’t blame you. After all, Ji Lanyi has always been a pain in your heart, and for that, mom apologizes to you. But after so many years, can’t you move past it? Tell me, why can’t you have children? Mom is still looking forward to holding a grandson," Yun Shu’s tone softened, persuasive and gentle.
Yun Shen, head bowed, after a long while, spoke softly, "The day before I married her, I secretly had a vasectomy without telling her."
Yun Shu looked at him incredulously, "Why would you do such a thing?"

Looking back now, Yun Shen found it to be ironic.
Yun Shu got the answer she wanted, but she did not feel happy at all. It turned out that so many years ago, her son would go to such lengths for that woman... What did she ever do to deserve this...
If Ji Lanyi were standing in front of her right now, Yun Shu would tear her apart, for having charmed her good son to such an extent. She couldn’t quite tell if it was anger, regret, or jealousy in her heart—a maelstrom of complex emotions.

Yun Shu let out a cold laugh, and slowly uttered three words, "Impossible."
Yun Shen grew unapologetic, "If you dare to harm them, I will never forgive you in this lifetime."
It was as if Yun Shu was seeing her son for the first time, "What were the promises you made to me then? You’ve changed your tune so quickly. Your daughter must be quite impressive, to have won you over in such a short time. It’s a pity, though, that if you wish to be a loving father, your dear daughter probably wishes you were dead."
Yun Shen turned away, speaking indifferently, "You needn’t worry about it; they are my children, and you are not to touch them again."
Yun Shu sneered, "Too late."
With that, she turned and left.
Yun Shen frowned, his footsteps almost following her but then he stopped, watching as Yun Shu disappeared from view.
After leaving the company, Yun Shu did not go to the hospital nor did she go home; she called someone’s number instead.
"Mr. Fu, today seems to be the last day. I want to know if the goods I asked for have arrived."
