James Heady arrived at Matthew Morgan’s office and immediately reported the outcome of the situation:
"Mr. Morgan, I’ve just finished investigating. Last week, the security guard who injured Chloe was dumped by his girlfriend for a rich kid. His girlfriend happens to have the same name as Chloe, which caused his emotional breakdown. I’ve already asked the HR department to strictly rectify the security and reception areas."
As James reported, Matthew Morgan leaned back in his chair, his gaze fixed on James, putting him under immense pressure.
He felt that Mr. Morgan’s look carried a kind of... scrutiny and observation?
The gaze was too intense; several times, James almost couldn’t continue speaking.
Matthew Morgan suddenly pushed off the table and stood up.
James’s nerves went taut.
Matthew had already stepped out from behind his desk, standing in front of James, frowning slightly and evaluating him.
James could only feel cold sweat constantly breaking out on his forehead.
He couldn’t guess what Matthew was thinking at the moment.
"Turn around." Matthew ordered.
James was baffled, but he turned around anyway.
Matthew walked in front of him, his sharp gaze sweeping over him.
He’s about 182 cm tall, quite tall and on the thin side.
His features weren’t particularly refined, but his attire and his aura of a workplace elite added to his presence.
But nothing particularly special.
Matthew raised an eyebrow, looking into the glass behind James, comparing their reflections slightly...
Height, he surpassed him!
Features, he surpassed him!
Charisma, he surpassed him!
"Why did Chloe Grant ask you for help?"
As James was about to crumble, Matthew finally spoke, "Do you have a close relationship with her? Closer than with me, her uncle, huh?"
"We were just old neighbors!" James hastily explained.
Upon hearing Matthew’s words, James was somewhat sure that Matthew was displeased that his niece sought his help rather than her uncle’s.
James quickly added, "Perhaps Chloe... Miss Grant thought it was a minor issue and didn’t want to bother you, Mr. Morgan, so she asked me to handle it directly. She didn’t expect it to escalate and alarm you, Mr. Morgan."
Matthew gave no response.
He was well aware that Chloe Grant deliberately avoided him by seeking out James.
Matthew really hadn’t noticed that there was such a connection between James and Chloe Grant.
"Childhood sweethearts?" he asked, his eyes as sharp as daggers.
James swallowed silently and quickly replied, "I have a girlfriend who’s studying abroad. Chloe... Miss Grant is very familiar with her."
Matthew did not respond to these words.
But James could clearly feel that Matthew’s gaze became slightly softer.
Just then, Matthew’s phone on the table started ringing.
Matthew glanced at it briefly, then gestured for James to leave.
James didn’t dare linger for even a second and quickly slipped away.
As he shut the door, he felt a sense of survival after a close escape.
At 25, James decided he’d retire at 35, to preserve his health and heart!
Matthew’s attitude didn’t seem like that of an uncle towards his niece, but rather... a jealous boyfriend?
As soon as this thought crossed his mind, James quickly dismissed it!
This thought was not to be entertained!
Meanwhile, inside Matthew Morgan’s office.
The caller was none other than the same person who had video-called earlier when Chloe was there.
As soon as Matthew answered the video call, he heard the person’s teasing words, "Morgan, you’ve spent ten years cultivating, and this is how you end up with a chubby little girl?"
