It was a feeling, an indescribable closeness, that made Lucas very uncomfortable.
"Just something came up. I have to stay with him lately. Moreover..." Chloe paused before saying, "You were the one who abandoned me first..."
The last sentence was said lightly, but Lucas heard it.
His expression suddenly froze.
"I... how did I abandon you? I..."
Just as he was about to speak, his phone rang, interrupting the conversation.
Lucas frowned, took the phone out of his pocket, and when he saw the caller ID, his frown deepened, and he decisively hung up.

It was a call from Lily, but Lucas hung up.

Chloe acted as if she didn’t see him, continuing to scroll, though in reality, she wasn’t really focused.
Luckily, Matthew Morgan wasn’t gone for long and soon returned.
For the first time, Chloe realized... Matthew could also be her savior.
"Come over." Matthew glanced at Lucas, then walked over to the desk.

Chloe sneaked a glance and instinctively thought they were calls from Lily, yet Lucas’s attitude remained cold.

The secretary seemed to want to say something but, seeing Chloe, seemed to understand something and ended up saying nothing, closing the file, "Alright, I understand, President."
Matthew took Chloe’s hand, leading her out of the office. They had dinner outside before he took her home.
"Don’t go out, I have to handle something, and I’ll be back soon." Matthew advised.
Chloe initially looked a bit down, but upon hearing Matthew’s words, her eyes immediately brightened!
But feeling it was too obvious, she quickly lowered her head, hiding her excitement.
Matthew tapped her head, "Don’t just play games, also listen for any sounds from outside. If there’s a problem, call me immediately, got it?"
