Seeing a giant beast flying towards oneself can be quite a surprising thing, this is only exacerbated when mere moments before one was having a heart to heart moment with someone you care deeply about.
So it took Luna a moment too long to react as she watched the hulking figure move closer and closer towards her. It was only Violet’s fast reaction of grabbing ahold of the front of Luna’s armour and void stepping to the side that saved both girls from becoming squished when the beast impacted the island.
The ground shook so violently that even Violet struggled to stay standing even when over 20 meters away from the impact point.
Glaring at the giant beast in annoyance a low growl escaped from the dragon causing the trunked beast to freeze up. It slowly turned to observe the duo and Luna could almost swear she saw a hint of shame flash through the beasts eyes.
However, it was gone so fast that she thought she might have only imagined it.
After a moment Violet let out a huff of annoyance and turned around to inspect the connecting mana strings and pick out the best direction for them to head in. Luna meanwhile kept an eye on the beast as it moved out of the landing zone with haste. She was curious as to why before glancing back to the fire domain and noticing the wolf pack also charging towards the edge and jumping over to join them on the island.
Seeing that they were about to get a lot more company Luna headed back towards Violet. "Well looks like we have a small army of beast that are following us." She said with a light laugh.
Quickly glancing back herself Violet let out a short huff before replying. "It’s only natural that they know how amazing I am and choose to follow! I am the bestest after all!"
It was at moment that truly reminded Luna how young Violet was, she may look like an adult and try to act mature but deep down she was still a kid and had plenty of childish moments . Secretly Luna hoped she would always have some of her childlike innocence, it helped her remember that she too was considered to be quite young but had lost her ability to act like a kid when she lost her family.
She shook her head to get rid of the dark thought threatening to creep up, she had a new family now and she had promised her clan to move on and continue to advance. She wouldn’t let herself be dragged down by those emotions, or worse yet drag Violet down with her.
Oblivious to her companions inner thoughts Violet was engrossed by observing the mana strings and the interconnected islands. Whilst she couldn’t quite see too many islands away from her current spot she could at least see a clear path for the next couple of jumps and confidently moved towards the first one. And seeing that it was a ice island she knew that her companion would approve after suffering through the fire domain. It did help that it was quite a large patch of land, or ice so they could spend some time there without too much to worry about.
Seeing that the pulse was heading in the direction that they wanted to travel in Violet scooped up the still deep in thought leopardkin and plopped her down on her back and then charged towards the edge and leapt off it without giving her time to react. The source of this content ɪs novᴇlfire.net
Luna being suddenly scooped up and finding herself flying through the void again let out a scream of surprise and leant forwards to wrap her arms around her companion neck. "Why!!" Was all she could get out between screams.
"Because I thought it would be funny!"
Glaring at Violet Luna managed to grind out. "And was it?"
To which Violet happily responded. "Yep it was hilarious! Iv never heard you scream like that before!" She was obviously quite happy with her ’prank’ and spoke again after enjoying the prolonged flight through the void for a moment. "Also we are going to an ice island so you’ll enjoy it!"
That second part did make the disgruntled girl perk up slightly, she was still fairly overheated from the prolonged exposure to the sweltering heat of the fire domain and she was more than happy to be able to relax somewhat in a nice and cool environment for a bit!
Before long the duo landed and were welcomed by a biting chill that caused Violet to involuntarily shiver and Luna to sigh in delight. She quickly hopped off Violet’s back and moved forwards, enjoying the cold air that helped to eradicate the last remnants of the heat that still clung to her. "Ohh yeah this was needed! Let’s never go to another fire domain again ok?"
Chuckling at that Violet didn’t bother responding and simply moved forward as well. She didn’t want to stay in the landing zone as she was sure that a number of beasts would choose to follow in their wake and she didn’t have to wait long to confirm that theory.
Soon 6 soft impacts were heard as the wolf pack landed behind them, they wasted no time in also moving out of the landing zone before the large beast too arrived. And before long even more beasts arrived until they numbered 20. Apparently not all of the beast were opting to follow in the companions wake but Violet was happy that at least the alpha wolf and the trunked beast were. They were the strongest of the beasts that had crossed the lava river after all and she could imagine that they could be quite helpful if they stuck together and got in any large scale fights.
Exchanging quick glances with the various beasts Violet turned around and began her march across the ice island with Luna as she once more began to search for the optimal path forward.
But seeing the relaxed and happy face of her companion as she basked in the biting cold Violet couldn’t help but slow down so that Luna could enjoy this chill for as long as possible.
