After Marrying Him, the Ending Has Changed Chapter 138

Chapter 138: Chapter 138: Running Away with My Daughter

He could certainly feel the Jiang family members’ preference for sons over daughters, and he was not surprised by it.

After all, even in the Capital City, many families around him valued sons more than daughters.

Those people had all received higher education, and if they were like that, let alone these rural people who were closed off and not as well-educated.

However, Uncle Jiang’s degree of doting on his daughter caught his attention.

Through several days of interaction, he naturally noticed how well Uncle Jiang treated Little Lamb, as if he were afraid of her falling out of his hands or melting in his mouth.

Although Aunt Wan was stricter with Little Lamb on a daily basis, he could tell that she truly loved Little Lamb from the bottom of her heart.

With parents who loved her so much, no wonder Little Lamb did not have the pettiness of other rural children but had a generous and cheerful personality, being both adorable and intelligent.

Zhang Guihua, though displeased that her eldest son openly disagreed with her, also knew that she could not control him.

His words always went in one ear and out the other, a complete waste of her saliva.

Feeling annoyed, she glared at the girls from the second household and then turned her head to see Yu Cheng filling his bowl with another heaping serving of rice.

Her heart suddenly ached at the thought—this young master was really too expensive for them to keep!

So she hurriedly asked, “Eldest, have you found out any news about Uncle Yu Cheng yet?”

Jiang Changhai shook his head and lied without blushing or breaking his stride, “Not yet, I’ll ask around some more.”

Just like his mother knew him, he knew her too. If she knew he had found news about Uncle Yu Cheng, she would definitely insist on sending people away immediately.

Zhang Guihua sighed, thinking about how many days the grain in the storage jar could last… Never mind, they had managed to get by for so long already, a couple more days wouldn’t make much difference.

“I’m going to take Wanyu out for a while today,” said Jiang Changhai after finishing his meal.

Zhang Guihua frowned in displeasure, “What for? Why don’t you stay home and work instead of always running around outside?”

“Wanyu is bored staying at home every day, and if she gets sick from it, we’ll have to spend money on medicine. I’m taking her out to browse around, to clear her mind,” he replied.

After saying that, Jiang Changhai pulled his wife away, leaving Zhang Guihua to curse alone in the room, though she did not stop them.

After all, there wasn’t much work to do in the fields during the cold winter days; she was just not used to the laziness of the first household and complained out of habit.

Sun Lixia’s thoughts, on the other hand, began to race. Taking that sickly child out for no reason, they must be up to something shady!

Could they be engaging in some black-market deals again?

The possibility excited Sun Lixia so much that she trembled all over. She had to follow them and see.

If the Eldest really was doing such things, she would demand ‘hush money’ from him; otherwise, she would let everyone know!

Thinking of the money that was about to enter her pocket, she clutched at her fiercely beating heart, took a few deep breaths, and stealthily followed behind the group.

Yu Cheng, walking behind the two adults with Jiang Mianmian, suddenly furrowed his brow and, quickening his pace with Jiang Mianmian, caught up to them and whispered, “Uncle Jiang, someone is following us.”

Su Wanyu’s first reaction was to fear that their speculative trading had attracted attention, and she became somewhat nervous as she pulled on Jiang Changhai’s hand.

Feeling her tension, Jiang Changhai squeezed her hand to comfort her, “My dear, don’t be nervous; we’re just a family taking a walk.”

“Yes, we haven’t done anything,” Su Wanyu relaxed slightly and took her daughter’s small hand with her other hand.

Thinking that if inspectors really did come out, she could grab her daughter and run away in time.
