Jiang Mianmian also said softly, “Dad, you must be careful when you go to Haicheng, try not to have any conflicts with the locals.”
Her dad would be unfamiliar with the place and if someone there tried to bully a newcomer, and her dad got into conflict, there would be no one to help him.
“No worries, my girl, your dad is very good at reading people, no one is going to take advantage of me.”
Jiang Changhai knew his daughter was worried about him, so he pulled Jiang Mianmian onto his lap and kissed her tender little face as well.
The next day, Jiang Changhai took his bundle and, after dropping Jiang Mianmian off at school, set off for Haicheng by car.
Even though Jiang Changhai was out of town and not in the factory, Su Wanyu still brought Jiang Mianmian to the dormitory every day to cook and eat.
Before he left, Jiang Changhai had already bought a pot from the black market.

So, the mother and daughter officially started cooking in the dormitory.
Every evening, just the two of them ate dinner. Whatever they wanted, they cooked; no one was there to be jealous or picky, and their life was very comfortable.
Sometimes, when Su Wanyu felt lazy and didn’t want to cook, they would either go to the canteen or to a state-run restaurant to dine out.
Though life was carefree, Su Wanyu was still worried about her man.
Where was he now? Was he tired? Had he eaten? Was the place he stayed at okay? All these questions jostled for prominence in her mind.
She knew there were risks associated with transporting goods over long distances. What if something dangerous happened on the road?
Su Wanyu had heard that some would deliberately place stones or cut-down trees on the road to stop passing trucks to rob them of money or goods.
That’s why many truck drivers kept an axe or a wooden stick in their vehicle for protection.
Jiang Mianmian noticed her mother’s uneasiness these past few days and asked, “Mom, are you worried about Dad?”
Su Wanyu pretended to be relaxed, “No, I’m not worried. The driver is an old hand, it’s safe. I just miss your dad a bit and wonder when he’ll be back?”
Jiang Mianmian tilted her little head, calculated, and since her dad had left six days ago and based on what he said before, he should be back in about another week.
“Dad should be back in about a week.”
“Mhm, Mom knows. When your dad comes back, let’s go to a restaurant to have a big meal to welcome him home.”
