Wang Li eagerly nodded in agreement, "Yes, yes."
Without needing instruction, he took the initiative to push two tables together to serve as a ping pong table.
Wang Li, unfazed by previous defeats, stood across from Yu Cheng, rubbing his hands together and tauntingly challenged, "Big Brother Yu, shall we play a few rounds?"
"Sure," Yu Cheng replied, racket in hand and a smirk on his face, If you’re looking for a trashing, don’t blame me afterward.
Once the game started, it was a fierce back-and-forth. Wang Li wasn’t bad at ping pong, but unfortunately for him, his opponent was Yu Cheng.
As expected, Wang Li was trounced again; Yu Cheng’s ping pong skills were fierce, especially his killer smashes.
After an entire morning of repeated losing and retrying, Wang Li became a little fanboy of Yu Cheng.
After playing all morning, when it was time for lunch, Wang Li and Li Lan went back to their own homes.
Su Wanyu prepared a sumptuous lunch, especially since Yu Cheng was there and Jiang Changhai also came home to eat.
During lunch, Yu Cheng suddenly said, "Uncle Jiang, Aunt Wan, I need to visit the farm this afternoon to check on my uncle. I’ll be back tomorrow."
"Okay, let Jiang Changhai go with you," Su Wanyu said naturally, as if it were a matter of her own family.
Jiang Changhai nodded, "Mhm, I’ll go ask for leave in a bit."
No matter how tall Yu Cheng was, he was still just a thirteen-year-old boy. Him going alone to such a remote farm was not something Su Wanyu and Jiang Changhai were comfortable with.
Feeling the warmth of their concern, Yu Cheng smiled and said, "It’s okay, Uncle Jiang, Aunt Wan, don’t worry. Somebody will accompany me, and a car is coming to pick me up later that will take us directly to the foot of the mountain."
The person accompanying Yu Cheng to the farm was arranged by the old master.
Jiang Changhai and Su Wanyu felt relieved knowing he would have company.
"That’s good then, I’m relieved. If there’s anything you need, just let us know," Jiang Changhai instructed.
"I will, Uncle Jiang."
After lunch, Su Wanyu didn’t rush to clean up; instead, she quickly made another portion of twice-cooked pork.
She packed it into Jiang Changhai’s lunchbox and handed it to Yu Cheng, "Take this to the farm for your uncle, let him taste my cooking."
Su Wanyu had heard from Jiang Changhai how harsh the conditions at the farm were and wondered how long it had been since his uncle had had a homemade meal. She thought she should help however she could.
"Thank you, Aunt Wan," Yu Cheng said as he accepted the lunchbox filled with twice-cooked pork. His handsome face didn’t show much emotion, but he felt a warmth inside.
Su Wanyu laughed, "What’s there to thank? It’s no big deal. If your uncle likes it, I can make more for him next time."
"He will definitely like it," Yu Cheng reassuringly responded.
"By the way, when is your ride coming to pick you up, Yu Cheng? While we have some time now, let’s go to the Supply and Marketing Cooperative and buy some daily necessities for your uncle to bring to the farm. It must be tough to purchase things over there, right?" Su Wanyu asked with consideration.
"I’ll go buy them in a while," said Yu Cheng.
Yu Cheng had already planned to do so without Su Wanyu mentioning it; the farm really was a place where money was of little use.
"Perfect, I’ll go with Mianmian to accompany you," said Su Wanyu, fearing that Yu Cheng, due to his youth, might not know what practical things to buy. Since she didn’t have anything pressing to do, it would be a good opportunity to accompany him.
Fearing the sun, Jiang Mianmian nodded in agreement, "Yes, let’s go with you."
Yu Cheng lifted the corner of his mouth in a smile, "Okay."
The three of them went to the Supply and Marketing Cooperative where they bought some ready-made foods, watermelon, liquor, and also filled a bottle with kerosene.
