"Mom, you don’t need to give me any money. I have money," Jiang Mianmian patted her pocket proudly.
She hardly spent the pocket money her parents gave her, so she still had quite a bit.
Su Wanyu was aware that her daughter had her own little treasure trove and nodded, "All right, then you two have a nice lunch and don’t scrimp on the money."
"Yes, got it. Oh, and mom, if Wang Li comes by later, could you please tell him..." Jiang Mianmian remembered that Li Lan and Wang Li were supposed to come over to do homework and reminded her.
"Wang Li won’t be coming over these next few days. His grandma’s relatives have come to visit and they’ve taken him with them." She had found this out when she went out to throw away the trash in the morning, from a conversation with Wang Li’s mother.
Hearing this, Jiang Mianmian nodded. She took Yu Cheng’s hand, eager to get going, and said, "Okay, mom, Brother Yu and I are off."
Su Wanyu saw Yu Cheng heading out in just a leather jacket and quickly said, "Hey, Yu Cheng, wait a second. This is the cotton jacket I made for Uncle Jiang. He hasn’t even worn it yet. You put it on. It’s so cold outside. A leather jacket is not enough; it’s too thin. Don’t catch a cold."
"Thank you, Aunt Wan," Yu Cheng said. Although he wasn’t afraid of the cold, he didn’t reject Su Wanyu’s kindness and obediently put on the cotton jacket.
Jiang Mianmian stood to the side, covering her mouth and snickering with delight.
Yu Cheng ruffled her hair. With his left hand, he held Jiang Mianmian’s hand, and with his right hand, he carried a big bag filled with various TV components, and the two headed to Li Lan’s home.
Grandma Li warmly greeted them when she saw Jiang Mianmian and Yu Cheng, "Oh, Mianmian, come in. And this must be Yu Cheng, you’ve gotten taller and more handsome. Come on, come in."
"Grandma Li," Yu Cheng greeted politely.
"Oh, what a good boy," Grandma Li remarked as she appraised Yu Cheng.
Jiang Mianmian first gave Grandma Li a sweet smile, then explained their presence, "Grandma Li, Brother Yu and I need to go out and would like to borrow your family’s bicycle, is that okay?"
"Of course, that’s perfectly fine. The bicycle’s in the storeroom. Come on, I’ll get it out for you," said Grandma Li as she went out to get the bicycle.
Jiang Mianmian and Yu Cheng quickly followed her.
Just having finished washing up, Li Lan saw through the window that Jiang Mianmian and Yu Cheng had come to her house. She immediately scampered out, "Mianmian, Big Brother Yu, what brings you here?"
"Sister Lanlan, Brother Yu and I have to go out for a bit, so we came to borrow the bicycle," Jiang Mianmian explained.
"Oh, where are you going? It’s so cold to ride a bike in this weather," Li Lan asked, concerned.
"Just some errand. We have to make a trip outside of town. It’s fine, Sister Lanlan, you don’t need to worry, we’re wearing plenty of clothes. Look at me, I’m wearing so much," Jiang Mianmian said as she spun around, doing a full 360-degree turn to show off her thick cotton clothes.
As they spoke, Grandma Li brought out the bicycle. Yu Cheng went over to take it, quietly saying, "Thank you, Grandma Li."
"Oh, you’re welcome. Just come over and take it whenever you need it. We don’t ride it much anyway," Grandma Li said with a chuckle.
"Grandma Li, Sister Lanlan, we’ll be going now," Jiang Mianmian waved to the two of them and said.
"Alright, ride carefully and stay safe," Grandma Li instructed.
With a swing of his long legs, Yu Cheng mounted the bike. He tilted it slightly toward Jiang Mianmian, signaling her to get on.
