It was Old Lady Zhang’s first visit to Jiang Changhai’s home, and as soon as she walked in, her eyes went wide in amazement. The interior was decorated so lavishly, even brighter than the village chief’s house. It was clear that Changhai had done very well for himself to be living in such a fine home.
“Grandma, come, sit here,” Su Wanyu, concerned that Old Lady Zhang had walked a long distance and might be tired, led her to the sofa.
Old Lady Zhang was taken aback once she sat on the soft sofa, exclaiming, “Oh my, what’s this thing? Why is it so soft?”
As she spoke, she also reached out to press down on the adjacent sofa.
Jiang Changhai, returning from the kitchen with the gifts the Jiang family members had brought, overheard his grandma’s comment. Jiang Changhai felt a headache coming on with the children’s noise and quickly raised his hand to motion them to quiet down, “I’ll put on the TV for you now, but speak properly in the future. What’s with acting so spoiled, big boys?”
They weren’t soft and delicate girls!
“Oh, awesome, Uncle is the best,” Zhiwen and Zhiwu immediately cheered, unconcerned with his comments.
Zhuangzhuang followed their lead, “Great-Uncle is the best.”
Jiang Changhai: “If you want to watch TV, then be quiet!”
After turning on the TV and adjusting the channel, the rowdy boys instantly became quiet and engrossed as they hunkered down in front of the television set.
Old Lady Zhang was seeing a color TV for the first time and, naturally, she was surprised all over again.
