For a moment, the cries of children could be heard throughout the entire Stone Bridge Village.
Zhao Xiaojuan held the cake, momentarily dumbfounded. She had saved it from her own share for Zhaodi, but now with so many children wanting some, she was caught in a dilemma between giving it or not giving it.
Seeing the situation, the village chief quickly spoke to Zhao Xiaojuan, who looked troubled, “Changhe’s wife, you better go back first. That bit of cake isn’t enough to go around anyway. Just take it back for Zhaodi to eat.”
Upon hearing the village chief speak, Zhao Xiaojuan hurried home with the cake.

Zhaodi’s mouth watered uncontrollably as she smelled the sweet fragrance, but just as she was about to take it, she saw that someone had bitten into it.

“That was Little Tiger who bit into it on the way back home,” Zhao Xiaojuan said with heartache, looking at the large missing piece.
Upon hearing it was Little Tiger who had bitten into it, Zhaodi immediately became infuriated, “Mom, why didn’t you hide the cake properly, letting Little Tiger take a bite? Little Tiger really, how can he be so greedy, eating such a precious item from someone else, it’s really annoying.”

Zhaodi, feeling accused by Er Ya of being ungrateful, thought back to how she’d been scolded by the main house a few days prior, and remembering the cake was made by Jiang Mianmian, she became even angrier.
“I don’t want it anymore, you all eat it,” she said with a huff, then ran out, furious.
“Ah, Zhaodi…” Zhao Xiaojuan, seeing her child run out angry, was somewhat worried.
“Mom, don’t mind her. The older she gets, the less she understands,” Er Ya uttered, tugging at Zhao Xiaojuan.
“Right, Xiaojuan, the child’s temper is getting worse. We can’t keep indulging her . When she comes back, I’ll have to give her a good talking-to,” Jiang Changhe said, also somewhat angry.
“But the cake?” Zhao Xiaojuan hesitated, looking at the remaining piece in her hand. Now Zhaodi was the only one in the family who hadn’t tasted the cake.
“Don’t give it to her, you and the kids eat it,” Jiang Changhe declared bluntly.
Zhao Xiaojuan, seeing Jiang Changhe angry, didn’t dare to speak up for Zhaodi anymore.
She first cut a small piece for Jiang Yuanbin and then divided the rest among the other children.
After Zhaodi had cooled down outside for a while and calmed her emotions, she returned home, head hung low in dejection.
Thinking of the sweet cake she had missed out on, her stomach betrayed her with a growl. She searched the house but found no cake, and suddenly burst into tears with a sense of injustice.
She had said she wouldn’t eat it out of spite, but her parents really didn’t keep any cake for her—they didn’t love her like they did in her last life!
Zhaodi cried with deep feelings of grievance.
Zhao Xiaojuan, seeing Zhaodi cry, wanted to go comfort her but was stopped by Jiang Changhe, “Leave her be. Let her cry. Today she must realize her mistake.”
Hearing her father’s words, Zhaodi cried even louder, feeling truly neglected by her parents.
