“All right, Brother Hai, my girl, let’s give it a try tomorrow,” Su Wanyu said with renewed confidence and high morale as everyone seemed so confident in her.
“That’s right, this is the kind of decisive and resolute daughter-in-law I’m talking about,” Jiang Changhai said with a playful grin.
Luckily, Jiang Changhai had a day off the next day and could accompany her to the job interview at the chemical plant.
The next morning, Su Wanyu put on the dress she had bought at the Supply and Marketing Cooperative two days before and, looking vibrant, headed to the chemical plant with Jiang Changhai and Jiang Mianmian.
These few days the chemical plant was anxious about not being able to find a German translator; the guard on duty became very enthusiastic when he heard they were there for a translator’s interview and immediately rushed inside to inform someone.
After a while, the guard came running out, out of breath, asking, “Who is here for the interview?”
Stepping forward with a smile, Su Wanyu said, “Hello, it’s me, I’m here for the interview.”
“All right, then follow me inside,” the guard told them.
“Mom, you’ve got this, you’ll definitely do well,” Jiang Mianmian, who couldn’t go inside, shook her fist at Su Wanyu to encourage her.
“Right, my wife, we’ll be waiting for you outside. Relax, it’s going to be okay, believe in yourself,” Jiang Changhai also encouraged her.
Full of confidence, Su Wanyu nodded at them both and followed the guard inside.
He led Su Wanyu to the entrance of the factory manager’s office and said, “You just knock and go in.”
“Thank you,” Su Wanyu nodded.
Once the guard left, Su Wanyu stood at the door, took a deep breath, and then knocked on the door.
“Come in,” someone inside said.
Pushing the door open, Su Wanyu saw a man in his forties sitting behind a desk.
The man was wearing black-rimmed glasses and frowned deeply, but as soon as he saw her, he quickly stood up and asked with a smile, “Are you here for the German translator interview?”
“Yes, factory manager, hello, my name is Su Wanyu, I’m here for the translator position,” Su Wanyu introduced herself with poised grace.
“Good, just a moment,” the manager said, picking up a German novel from the corner of the desk and pointing to a marked passage for her to translate.
Su Wanyu read the passage and translated it fluently.
The factory manager looked at his copy, nodding happily over and over.
As soon as she finished translating, he excitedly reached out his hand for a handshake with Su Wanyu.
Seeing this, Su Wanyu quickly shook his hand as well.
“Xiao Su, your translation is excellent, you’re hired. I now officially employ you as the translator for our upcoming reception of the German clients. Come to the factory at eight o’clock in three days,” the manager said with a relieved tone.
The search for a translator had worn him down these past days, and now that he found one, he could finally breathe easy.
Su Wanyu hadn’t expected things to go so smoothly; seeing her success, she tried to keep her excitement in check and responded calmly, “Okay, factory manager, I’ll be punctual in three days.”
After leaving the chemical plant, Su Wanyu saw Jiang Changhai and Jiang Mianmian eagerly awaiting her news, and she couldn’t hold back anymore, laughing joyfully.
“Brother Hai, my girl, I did it, haha, I got the job!”
As soon as Jiang Changhai heard what his wife said, he puffed out his chest proudly and said with a sense of shared glory, “My wife, see, didn’t I say you could do it? That factory manager has good judgment.”
