"I’m standing right here. If you want to order something, come and order it yourself. If you’re not eating, there’s the door, don’t let it hit you on the way out." The state-run restaurant’s waiter wasn’t easy to bully, standing at the counter, he glanced at them coldly and said bluntly.
"Hey, what kind of attitude is this? Do you believe I will complain?" A few of them, probably unaccustomed to the temper of the state-run restaurant’s waiters, now rebuffed, looked both shocked and displeased.
"This is the attitude. Complain wherever you love to." The waiter said nonchalantly.
Seeing such defiance from the waiter, the others also got angry. Just as the leading few were about to leave, one of the shorter ones among them pulled them back, "Hey, gentlemen, don’t get angry. Who are we to lower ourselves to argue with a waiter? That’s beneath us. Come, sit down here, cool off. This is the only state-run restaurant nearby. If we leave, there’ll be nowhere else to eat."
After hearing this, they reluctantly found a spot and sat down.
As it happened, they sat right next to Jiang Mianmian and her group.
After settling down, they kept their sunglasses on, exuding an air of superiority as if their dining there was blessing the entire state-run restaurant with prestige.
Jiang Mianmian, having witnessed the whole scene, was internally critical. It seemed that pretentious people were everywhere, and not restricted by time or place.
Zhong Yuan and Tian Wei also disliked these people strongly, so they moved their stools further inside to distance themselves, showing their disdain.
The short man, after calming his friends down, went to the counter and ordered some dishes.
The waiter glared at him, took the order without enthusiasm, and went back to relay it.
"The attitude of waiters in Hua Country is just unacceptable. Look at them all, acting as if we aren’t paying for our meals. When people come in, they don’t know how to serve! They act like they are the lords here, unlike in America, where customers are treated like gods. There, as soon as you enter, you are greeted with smiles," the man with sunglasses complained angrily about the waiter’s attitude after sitting down.
The woman with sunglasses had an even greater sense of superiority, "That’s exactly why I don’t want to return to this country. I don’t understand what the old man is thinking. In America, we had it good, and yet he insists on moving the whole family back to Hua Country. Look at this place, lacking everything, and everybody is arrogant without having money or power."
Just then, the state-run restaurant’s waiter came out to serve the dishes they had ordered. Hearing their talk, the waiter, with a dark expression, slammed a dish down in front of them.
"Shit! Be careful, this is a new outfit I bought in America worth hundreds of dollars. If you stain it, you can’t afford to compensate!" the woman screamed as she stood up, tugging at her clothes to inspect them closely.
"Cut it out, it’s not even dirty!" the waiter snorted coldly, ignoring them and walked away.
Hearing this, the tone of the woman with sunglasses grew even more disdainful, "What kind of people are these, really uncultured. Let’s leave immediately after we finish eating. I can’t stand this dreadful place for another minute."
By this time, it was peak dining time, and many people were coming into the restaurant. Much of the discussion from the couple with sunglasses had been overheard by many in the restaurant.
