Zhiwen and Zhiwu heard the hens clucking outside and peeked out the window, happily asking, “Grandma, are those chickens for us to eat?”
“No, Grandma specifically brought them to make chicken soup for Mianmian. She’s about to take her entrance exam and needs proper nutrition. These three chickens and the eggs are all for Mianmian. You’ll get your turn later, when you have your exams, Grandma will make them for you too,” Zhang Guihua said to her two grandsons, feeling that she was being fair.
Over the past year at Jiang Changhai’s house, Zhiwen and Zhiwu had become accustomed to meat and no longer craved it as much as before. Knowing the chickens were meant for Jiang Mianmian, they didn’t feel jealousy; rather, they found it quite reasonable.
They had witnessed just how hard and diligently Jiang Mianmian had been studying during this period.
Which made them reluctant to always go out and play with Wang Li and the others, choosing instead to study with her every day.
She deserved some good food to replenish herself.
“Come, Eldest daughter-in-law, put this basket in the kitchen. From today on, I will be in charge of the family’s meals. I want to properly nourish my granddaughter,” the old lady said as she handed the basket to Su Wanyu.

No matter what the old lady said, as long as she didn’t have to work and could enjoy ready-made meals, she was happy.
Zhang Guihua was satisfied with Su Wanyu’s tactfulness and didn’t dwell on the topic.
She went into the kitchen, got a clean bowl ready for blood, grabbed a kitchen knife, and headed to the yard to slaughter one of the chickens she had brought.
While the three children were studying inside, the two women sat by the door, chatting as they prepared the chicken.
