Chapter 25: Chapter 25 Preparing to Go Home
After roaring at Xia Chuyi, He Qing immediately soothed Xia Lan.
“Lanlan, are you okay?”
“No, nothing, Chuyi didn’t bully me…” Xia Lan replied softly.
The two were affectionate.
Xia Chuyi couldn’t stand it anymore, and climbed up behind the military truck, settling down against the metal interior.
Behind them, He Qing helped Xia Lan over and greeted the soldier driving.
“Gangzi, this is Lanlan, your sister-in-law.”
“Sister-in-law, hello!”
Just as Huo Shiqian had said, the people in the military had long assumed Xia Lan was He Qing’s fiancée.
After helping Xia Lan into the truck, He Qing picked up a bundle and threw it at Xia Chuyi’s feet.
“Here, these are your belongings.”
With a look of disdain and contempt.
Xia Chuyi was not angry or furious, she calmly picked up the bundle and, in front of He Qing, opened it and checked.
“It seems like something is missing?” she said indifferently after casually sifting through it.
Xia Chuyi’s cold tone irked He Qing.
“What do you mean, Xia Chuyi? Why are you so petty and calculating…”
Her stern and fierce gaze shot at He Qing like sword blades.
The sharp look made He Qing’s bravado diminish all at once.
“Brother Qing, don’t be mad, let’s talk calmly, okay?” At this tense moment, Xia Lan popped up, playing the peacemaker.
“Chuyi, look at the stuff you mailed to Brother Qing. There were many miscellaneous items, so it’s normal to use some, right? See, the big items like the watch and the tape recorder are there, aren’t they? Uncle He and Aunt He have always been good to you, so don’t be so petty, please.”
He Qing went along with this, huffing, acting as if she was above squabbling with Xia Chuyi.
“Heh.” Xia Chuyi inwardly sneered, saying nothing.
She took out the more valuable items from the bundle, put them into her bag, and gathered the rest carelessly, throwing them to the side.
She closed her eyes, no longer paying attention to the two.
The truck started moving.
On the journey, He Qing and Xia Lan kept on exchanging sentiments as if no one else was around.
By the time they reached the train station, their parting was even more reluctant.
Xia Chuyi, carrying her two bags, did not even look at them, and with a leap, jumped agilely from the truck.
Standing at the entrance of the waiting hall and sweeping her gaze around, she casually found someone and gave them the bundle of He Qing’s returned, incomplete belongings for a one-yuan tractor ticket.
The price was practically giving it away.
Then she found someone who looked quite wealthy and disposed of the watch and tape recorder for less than a hundred yuan.
After dealing with everything she got back from He Qing, she went to the ticket line to buy a ticket.
By the time she had bought her ticket, Xia Lan and He Qing had just reluctantly said their goodbyes.
“Lanlan, take care of yourself on the road. Keep my letter safe and show it to my parents when you get home, they will understand what I mean.”
“Okay, I know, Brother Qing, you also need to take care of yourself in the military.”
Xia Chuyi, tired in her eyes from the scene, tossed the ticket to Xia Lan.
“The money for the ticket came from the family, so you don’t need to pay, but you’re responsible for your own food and drink on the train.” Having said that, she took her bag and headed to the ticket checking gate first.
