The fake foreigner was astonishing at first sight, then he walked over and said to Xia Chuyi with a gentlemanly smile, "Hello, miss, I'm Jackson. We've met before, at the military guesthouse. Do you remember?"
Xia Chuyi remembered, of course.
However, she didn't like the look in the fake foreigner's eyes, so she asked, "Is there something you need?"
The fake foreigner didn't mind her indifference, still maintaining the demeanor of an upright gentleman as he said to her, "Miss, about the incident the other day, I want to apologize to you again."
"My sister Annie has been a bit too pampered at home, so she can be a little ill-tempered. Please forgive her."
Upon hearing this, Xia Chuyi frowned slightly. Was the fake foreigner just making small talk, trying to approach her?
Jackson continued with a steadfast gaze on Xia Chuyi, "I remember there's an old saying in Z country that goes, 'Destiny brings people together from afar.'"
"Comrade, I've come all the way from the United States to meet you at the guesthouse, and now we've bumped into each other here again. I believe we're really fated to meet."
"So, may I have the honor of knowing your name, miss?"
He was indeed hitting on her.
But was there something wrong with his brain? His sister had verbally provoked and insulted her, and he still talked about them being fated?
Xia Chuyi looked at the woman accompanying Jackson and saw that her expression was as ugly as if it were smeared with soot. She stood there, extremely awkward.
"Mr. Jackson," Xia Chuyi began, "perhaps you're unaware, but in our Z country, we also have two sayings: 'Do not conspire if the paths are different,' and 'No more words are needed if the talk is not congenial.'"
With utmost composure, Xia Chuyi continued, "So, if you'll excuse me, I have things to do. You should continue your leisurely stroll with your companion."
Having said that, she paid no more attention to Jackson, paid the owner, didn't even change back into her clothes, and just left.
Jackson was slightly stunned, not expecting Xia Chuyi to dismiss him without any respect.
After coming back to his senses, he called out behind her, "Hey, miss, I didn't mean any harm!"
He prepared to follow her, only to be stopped by his companion tugging at his sleeve.
"Mr. Jackson!" The companion gritted her teeth, forcing an unpleasant smile at Jackson, "Weren't you going to buy me a gift?"
Watching Xia Chuyi's retreating figure get further away, Jackson's expression held a hint of regret as he shook his head.
Turning back to his companion, Jackson said, "Ms. Chen, I have something else to attend to right now. Could we possibly buy the gift another day?"
Hearing this, his companion's expression immediately soured. "Don't you still want my assistance with something?"
At her words, Jackson's eyes widened and he said, "Ms. Chen, is there a misunderstanding? I only wanted you to be my guide."
"I intended to sincerely get to know you with the idea of making friends, nothing more."
"You've misunderstood," Jackson earnestly said.
Then Jackson shook his head, "Ms. Chen, the misunderstanding you have about me has left me sad and deeply regretful."
"Ms. Chen, we'll meet again if fate allows."
With that, he left the gift on the spot and walked away.
Behind him, his companion wore a look of disbelief.
On the other hand, after Xia Chuyi had wandered the streets a little longer, she finally carried her things back to the guesthouse.
Just as she entered the guesthouse door, she heard a voice from ahead, "Miss Xia Chuyi!"
