Chapter 60: Chapter 60 No One to Blame
Xia Chuyi’s words caused Xia Lan’s face to undergo a drastic change, and the expressions of the others weren’t much better.
“I, my situation is different, Brother Qing and I are genuinely in love… It was Sister Mei who stole the marriage…” Xia Lan hurriedly argued.
“What are you talking about, Xia Lan!” Aunt Xia exclaimed anxiously.
“Xia Lan! My situation is certainly different, you and He Qing haven’t settled anything, how can I be accused of stealing? Previously, Chuyi and He Qing’s marriage was arranged, you interfered out of nowhere, that’s the real theft!” Xia Mei also quickly jumped in to refute and reprimand Xia Lan, “Shame on you!”
Both exposed each other’s dirty laundry, and all their embarrassing and awkward thoughts were laid bare.
“A family arguing over and over, what’s the point?” Finally, Grandma Xia slammed the table heavily again and yelled, “Do you really think I’m dead?”
The arguing ceased, Grandma Xia continued, “Parental orders, matchmaker’s words, this marriage was agreed upon by the adults of both families, what is this nonsense about stealing? How ugly does that sound?”
Grandma Xia looked towards Mrs. He.
“Mrs. He, you see I’m right, don’t you?”
“Old Aunt…” Although Mrs. He looked uncomfortable, for the sake of face, she had to agree, “What you’re saying makes sense.”
Suddenly, Xia Chuyi clapped her hands, smiled, and said, “Right, Grandma is right!”
The atmosphere took a strange turn.
“Why talk about stealing or not? I’m not blaming anyone… He Qing and I had mutually agreed to annul the engagement,” Xia Chuyi’s eyes curved like crescents, she spread her hands and generously said.
She was implicating everyone.
In this matter, everyone present owed Xia Chuyi an apology, yet oddly, no one apologized.
So, Xia Chuyi put on a front as though she was forgiving them despite their actions against her.
The atmosphere at the scene became stagnant.
The room fell silent for a long while.
“I’m tired of talking to you!” Xia Mei’s face turned from red to white and back, extremely embarrassed, she finally stomped her foot, “Grandma, Mom, I don’t want to marry He Qing, who would want such a vile rogue!”
With a cold snort, she ran out of the room.
Seeing her daughter storm out, Aunt Xia also became angrily upset, turning to Xia Lan, she gritted her teeth, “Er Lan, since you, a young lady, have already done that sort of thing with him… there’s nothing more to say about this marriage, I hope you’re happy!”
Having said that, Aunt Xia also stormed out.
The room became even more awkward.
Mrs. He’s face turned ashen. After a long moment, she said, “Mrs. Xia is right, given the circumstances, let Er Lan marry over.”
Mrs. He’s words clearly intended to absolve herself, pretending not to have known anything before.
Although she acknowledged Xia Lan, her eyes didn’t even drift towards Xia Lan.
Clearly, Mrs. He was angry with Xia Lan.
“Aunt He…” At this moment, Xia Lan continued to act pitifully.
Unfortunately, Mrs. He no longer wanted to pay her any attention.
