Chen Feng laughed and said, "Maybe. Those within the system actually envy you guys who are doing business."
Guo Mengyao shook her head and said, "Everyone has their own struggles and their own benefits, I guess. Right now, I’m just getting by."
"Don’t be too modest. I can tell by your current state that you’re a big boss."
"Not really. I just run a cosmetics company. It started in Guang City as a small venture with two other partners. Nothing grand."
"A cosmetics company, huh? That’s a very profitable industry. Looks like you’ve made quite a bit of money."
"Where did you get that idea? Just scraping by, it’s very tiring."
After chatting for a while longer, Guo Mengyao’s phone rang. After answering, she hastily bid Chen Feng goodbye but, of course, added him on WeChat before leaving.
Following her departure, Wu Mengting said, "Brother, your female classmate seems to have taken quite an interest in you. Despite having an urgent matter, she made a point to stay and talk that much."
Chen Feng smiled and said, "She was my high school classmate. We were desk mates. You should know, back in high school, I was really handsome and ranked among the top ten in my class. I was nicknamed ’Chen Yanzu’, and I had quite a few admirers, one of whom must have been her, crushing on me. But at that time, I was wholly focused on my studies, aiming for university, never thought about dating. I was really naive back then."
Wu Mengting curled her lip and said, "You’re anything but naive now."
Chen Feng laughed and said, "Physically, I may not be naive, but my soul is still very pure."
"That’s just disgusting," Wu Mengting retorted, unimpressed.
Chen Feng just chuckled and shook his head, saying, "That’s the honest truth. Believe it or not."
Lin Yujiao smiled and said, "I believe you."
"See, that’s why you’re my favorite."
Chen Feng reached over and naturally took her hand, leading her to sit down on the sofa.
Wu Mengting felt a bit displeased by their intimate gesture but didn’t want to show it. She followed and sat down beside Chen Feng.
"Brother, this female classmate of yours must be married, right?" Wu Mengting asked curiously.
"I really don’t know. But she should be the same age as me, so she probably is married by now."
"Yeah, I think so too."
After chatting for some time, Qin Zhen finally arrived with Ning Wei. After a brief introduction to Lin Yujiao, they all went to the buffet restaurant where Chen Feng paid for the meal.
Everyone served themselves food, found a table, and sat down together. Chen Feng then told Qin Zhen about his chance encounter with Guo Mengyao and casually inquired about her situation.
"Guo Mengyao is also from our hometown, and Qin Zhen is much more informed than I am.
"Her family is very wealthy. Her dad owns a large-scale machinery factory, definitely worth over a billion in assets, and her mom runs a big clothing factory that does OEM for major brands, domestically and internationally—always doing good business. Back in high school, her parents got divorced. She went with her mom."
This was new to Chen Feng, who responded in surprise, "I really couldn’t tell. She used to dress simply in high school, wasn’t much into makeup. And she never showed any signs of sorrow from her parents’ divorce, always smiling. I hardly ever saw her looking upset."
Qin Zhen smiled and said, "She’s got a cheerful disposition. You know, I nearly went after her once, but then another classmate told me she liked you all along, so I backed off. After all, you’re my bro, and I can’t be undermining you. It’s a pity, you were so clueless, didn’t have a clue, wasted a whole lot of opportunity."
"No way! For real? She actually had a crush on me?"
Chen Feng was quite astonished. He had only bragged about Guo Mengyao having a crush on him in passing and never expected it to be true.
"Would I lie to you?" Qin Zhen said with a laugh, "Regretting it now? It’s too late for regrets, I’ve heard she’s already married, and I think she even has a daughter."
