Nick was at a loss for words; he couldn’t quite confirm whether Emma Bennett’s words were true, but at the very least, he certainly wasn’t as valued by her as he used to be.

Back in the bedroom, as Lucy removed her makeup and was brushing her teeth, Jacob drew a bath and then walked over to help her undress.

Jacob embraced her, "Don’t go to work yet, stay with me for a few days."
"I can take a few days off at home, but you’re not going to the office either?"
"What I mean is, wherever I go, you’ll come with me."
Lucy replied, "If you want me by your side, do you still have the mind to work? For the next few days, I won’t report to the hospital, but I have to go to the store to check the accounts, get some beauty treatments, and relax with some shopping."
"That’s fine, as long as I can see you when I come home." While saying this, he weighed the soft jade in his hand, feeling its heft, "What have you been eating to make it this big?"
"Isn’t that thanks to you?"
Jacob laughed, "I meant before you met me."
"Just the usual meals, nothing special, it’s natural."
"Naturally good, I like it." He turned to face her, cupping the curves in his hands, and lowered his head to gently nibble.
Lucy leaned against the sink, looking down at him, her body involuntarily gravitating towards him.
She placed her hand on Jacob’s neck, her fingers lightly moving.
As the two were intimately close, the phone rang persistently outside.
It’s as if they planned it; as soon as Jacob’s call ended, hers rang, and before hers finished, his rang again.
Jacob lifted his head, holding her hand, they didn’t leave the bathroom, instead, they went to shower.
After the shower, they just wiped their bodies with a towel and went out naked together.
Lucy lay on the bed, picked up the phone to see, and it was Mia Townsend calling.
She called back, her tone light, "Mia."
"James told me you came back safely, was everything smooth?"
"Although the process wasn’t exactly pleasant, I returned safe and sound, without injury."
"That’s good." Mia’s voice carried a smile, "I’ve got some good news for you."
"Want to take a guess?"
Mia was silent on the other end for two seconds, then she squealed, "Ah! Lucy, how did you guess that?"
"For you, what else could be good news besides having a baby?" Lucy’s lips curled up, "Congratulations."
"How far along are you?"
"38 days." Lucy could hear from her voice that Mia was quite excited, "I just had a check-up at the hospital this afternoon."
"The first three months are the most important. Starting tomorrow, take good care of the baby. As for the store, don’t worry about it too much, it’s taxing."
"The store has been busy lately; I’ll be careful, it’s okay."
"How’s Robert Langley’s wife’s recovery going?"
"According to Robert, she’s fine now."
"Would you consider having her help out at the store?"
Mia thought it could work, "How should her salary be handled?"
"Discuss it with Robert."
"Okay, I’ll handle her pay separately, and I’ll call Robert now."

Jacob, who had been eavesdropping by her ear, straightened up, "Your brother must be very happy."
"I’d also be happy if it were me."
Lucy glanced at him, suddenly recalling the scene in her past life when she brought a pregnancy slip to him.
He had fallen from a building at Trelliswood District, pierced by steel rods and seriously injured. When she saw him, Jacob had just recovered.
She got straight to the point, laying the slip in front of him and saying four words, "I’m pregnant."
Lucy clearly remembered Jacob’s initial blank stare after hearing her, then his counter-question, "How much do you want?"
He was straightforward, his intention clear, resolving with money.
"Do you think I’m here to ask for money?"
"Do you still intend to have it?" His expression was indifferent, "I never considered having any future with you, don’t have delusions."
"I won’t abort. The reason I’m here isn’t for money, but I want the child to have a father. If you don’t want the child and aren’t willing to give him a home, that’s fine, just pretend I never came."
"Ha." He sneered, "Sounds nice, wanting the child to have a father. You think that means if you want it, I’ll agree? Don’t play hard to get with me. Since I know about this child, don’t think you can walk away untouched."
As they talked, Jacob’s mother entered from the doorway, having heard their conversation.
And that’s how they ended up marrying because of the child.
He never had any hope for the baby’s birth.
Now, hearing him say that if she were pregnant, he’d be happy,
Lucy felt a pang of sadness.
"I’m not pressuring you to have a baby, why the expression?" he touched her head, "Let’s go with the flow, okay?"
Lucy lay in his arms, "There’s no rush. Who was calling you just now?"
"Elijah? You didn’t call him back?"
"I sent him a message."
As soon as he spoke, the phone rang again.
Jacob put it on speakerphone, holding the phone, "What’s up?"
"Do you know where I am right now?"
"I’m not a psychic, how would I know where you are? The red-light district?"
"Pfft! I’m a decent man, you know." Elijah’s voice came through with the sound of waves, "I’m on an overseas vacation island right now. It’s not hot at all, very comfortable. Want to come and play?"
"Can’t go, too busy with work."
"Not coming is your loss, surrounded by beauties, the scenery is delightful."
Jacob replied, "I’m not interested in beauties, I’ve got one at home."
"Having a wife is so great, huh?" Elijah sighed again, "Who was the one shouting about wanting to go abroad and have fun?"
"Elijah, while you’re abroad, find a good hospital to check your brain, imagine if you started hearing things, what to do then?"
Just as Elijah was about to say something, he promptly hung up the phone.
Lucy looked at him with a hint of a smile, noticing his guilty look, "Do you need to go abroad to have fun? Not enough room for you in the country?"
"Don’t listen to his nonsense, I’m only interested in you, no one else."
