I’m not a fast typist, nor am I a full-time writer... These days, very few internet writers are full-time.
Because truly, only a tiny portion make enough money for a basic living. Those with a bit of insight into the industry should know: on Qidian, the full-attendance bonus for the first three months is 1,500 yuan. Only if a book’s average subscriptions exceed 500 does the author qualify for the subsequent monthly full-attendance bonus of 1,000 yuan.
For regular members, a 2,000-character Chapter costs 0.1 yuan. For premium VIPs, it’s 0.06 yuan. After the platform takes its cut, the author receives, on average, about 0.03 yuan per 2,000 characters. So, with 500 average subscriptions plus the full attendance bonus, an author might make around 2,500 yuan a month. If an author writes 150,000 characters a month, a reader supporting them through official channels would spend about 7.5 yuan—less than the price of a pack of cigarettes!
