Ancestral Lineage Chapter 217

A deafening explosion shattered the evening stillness. A mountain crumbled into rubble as a painful cry echoed through the vast, frozen wasteland.

"AAARGH! What the hell—?!"

Ethan staggered, his breath sharp and unsteady. His red hair, once a blazing ember, turned blue—icy, spiky strands standing on edge as an unnatural chill raced through his veins. He could feel it. Not just in his body, but in his very soul.

Something was bonding with him.

Then, he felt the others.

One presence was soothing, wrapping around his spirit like a gentle stream, flowing in harmony with him. Another shone like the morning sun, casting warmth through his being. One struck a perfect balance, neither overwhelming nor lacking, existing in equilibrium. Another lashed through him like lightning—sharp, crackling, alive. One expanded his mind, opening doors within his consciousness he hadn't even known existed. Another was cold and warm, a paradox of sensations wrapped into one. One was an embrace, deep and comforting, like sinking into a trusted presence. And another? It was lava—burning, molten, searing through every fiber of his soul.

Soul-chilling cold. A cold that even his countless abilities and resistances could not suppress.

Ethan's breath hitched, his body shivering against the unnatural frost settling into his core. His golden-black aura flickered, as if struggling against this new force.

"What is this?" His voice was hoarse, almost trembling. "What the—"

A figure emerged from the blizzard, stepping forward with an effortless grace. A woman—no, something more.

She was ethereal, her beauty both breathtaking and unearthly. Long, flowing hair, pure white like freshly fallen snow, cascaded down her back. Her eyes—glowing, icy blue—held an abyssal coldness, an unreadable depth that sent a shiver through his soul. Her skin was an enchanting shade of pale blue, glistening as though sculpted from frost itself.

Atop her head, two horns curved back, shaped like delicate icicles—translucent, shimmering with an inner light. They were intricate, crystalline, as if carved by the coldest winter itself.

She was beautiful—but her beauty was distant, untouchable. Like an ice sculpture in a forgotten world, frozen in time.

But what captured Ethan's attention most wasn't her haunting presence, nor the frost curling around her fingertips.

A small, golden sigil glowed on her navel—a delicate, radiant mark that pulsed in sync with his own heartbeat.

Ethan's breath caught in his throat. A Soul Mark.

"A… Soulmate?" he whispered.

The woman met his gaze, her chilling blue eyes boring into him as if she could see straight into his soul. A faint breeze swirled around them, carrying frost with it.

Then, for the first time, she spoke.

Her voice was soft but absolute. A whisper of winter's breath, yet laced with the force of a blizzard. It wasn't a question. It was a declaration.

Ethan stiffened. His?

His mind whirled with a thousand questions, but before he could speak, the bond between them surged.

A frigid wind howled around them, and Ethan felt something pull at his soul—an invisible force yanking him forward, demanding acknowledgment. His own energy flared in response, resisting for a moment before merging with hers in a collision of ice and golden-black flame.

His knees nearly buckled.

It wasn't just a connection.

And it ran far deeper than any ordinary bond.

"A Soulmate? Here of all places? How?"

Ethan's eyes pulsed with a deep, piercing blue as he scanned the frozen wasteland. His breath curled in the air, his senses expanding, searching.

"She has to be close..."

A sharp pain spiked through his mind, like an ice pick driven straight into his skull. His vision blurred for a split second.

A system notification flashed before him.

A Soulmate Has Been Detected in This Plane.

Find Her. Save Frosteria and all of Terrelbeul.

Failure Consequences: [Unknown]

Time Limit: [3 Days Max]

Ethan exhaled sharply, rubbing his temples. "Great. So it's not just some random bond—there's a whole damn catastrophe tied to it."

Now, there was something bigger.

He sighed, rolling his shoulders. "Guess the war will have to wait a little."

Ethan exhaled, his breath misting in the frigid air. With a swift motion, he leaped onto Sage's back, the drake's massive wings unfurling as it let out a deep, resonant growl. Its silver eyes gleamed with newfound understanding—it was no longer just a beast, but his spirit beast.

Ethan ran a hand along Sage's neck. "Let's move."

With a powerful beat of its wings, the drake launched into the sky, shattering the ice below with the force of its ascent. The wind howled around them as they surged forward, the frozen wasteland stretching endlessly beneath them.

Behind him, Kaldaroth dissolved into a swirling mass of black mist, shifting through the air like a living shadow, always trailing just behind.

The serpent, now sealed within Ethan, pulsed faintly, dormant but present.

Ethan's gaze sharpened as he directed Sage forward. "First things first—Frosteria."

The sky above was a deep shade of navy, the stars barely visible behind swirling snow clouds. Below, the land was an endless expanse of ice and ruin, vast glaciers broken and shattered, frozen rivers stretching like veins across the land.

This place was dying.

Ethan's fingers curled slightly as he absorbed the sight. The quest mentioned saving Frosteria and all of Terrelbeul—but from what?

Kaldaroth's voice rumbled from the mist. "This land was once a kingdom, thriving under the rule of the Frost Empress. But something happened. Something… unnatural."

Ethan narrowed his eyes. "You're telling me this place used to be full of life?"

"Indeed," Kaldaroth affirmed. "Frosteria was home to an ancient lineage—one blessed by the Primordial Ice. Their queen wielded a power that could rival gods. But one day, the land was swallowed by an eternal frost… and the queen was never seen again."

Ethan exhaled; his breath slow. "And you think my 'soulmate' is connected to all this?"

Kaldaroth chuckled darkly. "Probably a coincidence."

Ethan smirked. "Figured."

Sage let out a low growl, its wings shifting mid-flight. Below, a faint glow pulsed beneath the ice—something hidden, something ancient.

Ethan's eyes flickered gold for a moment. "We're getting close."

Then, without warning—

A massive ice formation exploded ahead, shards flying in every direction as a towering figure emerged from the depths below.

Its form was colossal—a construct of ice and shadow, its hollow eyes burning with an unnatural blue light. Chains of frost wrapped around its body, binding it to the land itself, its appearance almost resembling Kaldaroth.

And as it turned its gaze toward Ethan—

"Outsider… you should not be here."

Ethan's grin widened, his eyes glowing a dangerous red.

"Yeah? Well, I'm not exactly the listening type."
