Another world Game Developers in Japan`s 1991 Chapter 135

Kumogi grinned as he sipped his coffee, ready to dive into Metroid. He opened the beautifully designed Metroid box, admiring the contents inside: the game cartridge, a Metroid guidebook, ZEPS Volume 4, and a sleek black and gray Z card. His eyes fell on a strange phrase printed on the card: "I might glance at you occasionally, wishing you good luck." Orıginal content can be found at 𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹✦𝕗𝕚𝕣𝕖✦𝓷𝓮𝓽

Kumogi raised an eyebrow. "Hmm? Is Zabo-man only a cameo in this game? Whatever." Shrugging it off, he inserted the cartridge and turned on the console. The screen lit up with an opening message:

DEFEAT THE METROID OF PLANET ZEBETH AND DESTROY THE MOTHER BRAIN, THE MECHANICAL LIFE VEIN.

GALAXY FEDERAL POLICE M510

Then, the screen shifted to reveal an armored figure in an orange space suit, standing in an eerie blue environment. Kumogi's eyes widened in excitement. Without hesitation, he began exploring the mysterious world of Metroid.

His first major find was the Morph Ball. As soon as he picked it up, the game paused, displaying a short guide:

Morph Ball: Allows Samus to curl into a ball. Press DOWN to transform, and UP or X to return to normal.

"Whoa! So, I can get power-ups?" Kumogi grinned, eager to see what other abilities he could unlock. He tested the Morph Ball, rolling through a small gap to progress further.

ZEPS had added small text guides after obtaining power-ups, which was a helpful addition since the original Metroid lacked explanations. Players often had to rely on the manual to understand what they had collected. Additionally, the guidebook in this version included a detailed map—though Kumogi had his doubts about how useful it would be in such a labyrinthine world.

As he continued playing, he quickly realized that enemies dropped health upon defeat. "Nice," he thought. But his optimism faded when he noticed how quickly enemies respawned.

"What the hell?! They come back so fast!" he groaned. Seeing no point in fighting endlessly, he decided to dodge them whenever possible. Even so, the enemies managed to land multiple hits on him. A Zoomer, a spiky hedgehog-like creature, approached him and struck his Samus down.

"Damn it! That shitty hedgehog!" he gritted his teeth and restarted, now playing more cautiously. He eventually passed the area swarming with Zoomers, only to be faced with multiple branching paths.

"Huh? Where the hell am I supposed to go?"

Confused, he wandered aimlessly while fending off increasingly aggressive enemies. He struggled with platforming and kept taking unnecessary hits.

"Ugh! This is frustrating!"

After much persistence, he stumbled upon his first Missile upgrade.

Missile: A powerful alternative ammo. Switch to it using the SELECT button. Missiles can be replenished by defeating enemies that occasionally drop them.

"Oh, sweet!" Kumogi quickly tested the missiles, finding that they one-shot enemies. However, he was shocked when he noticed his missile count drop from 5 to 4 after just one shot.

"What?! Missiles are this limited?" he muttered. He continued exploring, finding a red bubble door blocking his path. Thinking it was just another normal door, he shot at it with his standard beam—but it didn't open.

He tried hitting it with a single missile, but it still wouldn't budge. Frustrated, he finally opened the guidebook. There, he found the solution: Red doors require five missiles to open.

"Five missiles?! I just wasted them all! Damn it!"

Annoyed, he farmed more missiles from enemies until he reached five again. After blasting through the red door, he found another missile upgrade, raising his maximum capacity to ten. He also obtained an energy tank, increasing his overall health , While he grinds for missiles, there are black and gray helmeted characters with blue visors flying around in the background. "Whoa, that's Zabo-man!" Kumogi says, stopping for a moment to watch Zabo-man flying around. After a couple of seconds, Zabo-man stops and faces the player, floating in place. He delivers a message: "Try your best! You are very cool!" before flying away. Kumogi grins and responds, "I will try my best, Thanks Zabo-man!"

Feeling more confident, Kumogi pressed on, collecting more power-ups, including the Bomb.

Bomb: Can be placed while in Morph Ball form. The explosion does not harm Samus and can even propel Samus upward if timed correctly.

Recalling a previously unreachable high platform, he tested his bomb jump technique and successfully launched himself onto the ledge.

"Heh, so that's how you do it!"

Later, he discovered the Ice Beam.

Ice Beam: Freezes enemies. Frozen enemies can be used as temporary platforms.

"Oh, this opens up a ton of possibilities!" Excited, he froze an enemy midair and used it as a stepping stone to reach another ledge.

But his excitement soon turned into frustration. The game's non-linear design left him utterly lost.

"Where the hell am I supposed to go?!" he groaned.

He wandered aimlessly for what felt like an eternity. At one point, purely out of frustration, he spammed bombs on the ground. To his shock, one section of the floor suddenly crumbled.

"What?! So there are hidden paths ?!"

Encouraged, he continued exploring, only to get lost again minutes later.

"Argh! This is driving me insane!"

After nearly two hours of playing, he hadn't even encountered a single boss yet. Exasperated, he finally calmed himself down and flipped through the guidebook. He studied the detailed map carefully, trying to pinpoint his location.

"Alright... I think I need to go here."

Following the guide, he reached a new area, but soon got lost again.

"You've got to be kidding me!"

His brain was fried from all the trial and error. With a sigh, he saved his progress, turned off the console, and leaned back in exhaustion.

"Damn, Metroid is brutal... and I haven't even fought a boss yet!"

Despite the frustration, he couldn't deny how immersive and rewarding the game felt. But for now, he needed rest. Tomorrow, he'd tackle it again after work—hopefully with a clearer head.
