Sakaki in Japan was just like Leo Garrick in the US. He had played through Rad Racers extensively until he finally unlocked the Fantasy Race by entering L1GM4 in the code menu. Unlike Leo, however, Sakaki was already familiar with the code, having seen it before while playing Punch-Out.
"Haha! I bet this is just like Punch-Out where we get to play with Zabo-man!" he laughed. And true to his prediction, the Fantasy Race featured Zabo-man's car—a sleek black and gray vehicle with a large "Z" emblazoned on both the front and back. It looked like a futuristic sports car, something out of a sci-fi movie, and it had the best stats Sakaki had seen in the game so far.
As the race began, his first opponent appeared. A yellow, boat-like car rolled onto the track, its windows painted with a giant SpongeBob face. The name SpongeBob Sea Devil flashed across the screen.
Sakaki burst into laughter. "Hahahah! SpongeBob!? What kind of crazy game is this!?" The race kicked off, and he quickly realized that the Fantasy Race opponents weren't just normal racers—they had special abilities. SpongeBob could use "Bubble Water Nitro" to propel himself forward at high speeds in straightaways. The effect was hilarious, with waves of bubbles spraying behind him as he sped ahead. Sakaki grinned. Zabo-man's car handled exceptionally well, far superior to a fully upgraded ZAGE Rad Racer 1992 from the main game. Even so, he had to strategize to counter SpongeBob's unexpected boosts. After a few intense laps, he managed to take first place just before the finish line.
The next opponent appeared, and Sakaki nearly fell off his chair laughing. It wasn't even a car—it was just a giant, rolling Pac-Man with its mouth wide open. The name Pac-Man Rolling Rolling blinked onto the screen.
"Hahah! Is that just Pac-Man!?" Sakaki shouted. True to form, Pac-Man had an aggressive racing style, trying to chomp at Zabo-man's car at every turn. If he made contact, he'd send Sakaki spinning out. Expecting this, Sakaki maneuvered carefully, using his drifting skills to stay ahead. It was a bizarre race, dodging an opponent who wasn't even driving a car, but after an intense battle, he finally managed to outspeed the giant rolling sphere.
As soon as he secured victory, another racer appeared—this time, it was a motorcycle. The name Motorcycles Are Better Than Cars! flashed onto the screen. Sakaki gasped before bursting into laughter. "Hahaha! Hang-On guy! Long time no see!" It was the iconic motorcycle driver from ZEPS' famous Hang-On game. Unlike previous opponents, this one had insane cornering speed and could slip through gaps with precision. The motorcycle also had an ability that allowed it to lean so far into turns that it seemed to defy gravity. However, after a few retries, Sakaki found a strategy and managed to win.
The next challenger drove up, and this time it was an SUV with a red hat on its roof and a thick mustache painted on the front. The name 1Ts M3 M4R10 appeared on the screen.
Sakaki smirked. "It's me, Mario!" But before he could get too comfortable, the race started, and the Mario SUV suddenly leaped into the air. "What!? It can jump!?" The unexpected ability made the race much harder. Every time Sakaki tried to overtake, Mario would bounce over obstacles and cut ahead. The track had ramps specifically placed to benefit Mario's jumping ability, making it nearly impossible to predict his movements. It was one of the most difficult races yet, but after a long struggle, Sakaki finally emerged victorious.
Then, the words Final Stage appeared on the screen. The last opponent drove up, and Sakaki's eyes widened in shock. It was Sonic! But instead of running, Sonic was seated inside a sleek blue car with his own face printed on the hood. The text on the screen read: "Hey! I'll give you a handicap by racing you in my lovely Sonicson car instead of running!"
Sakaki stared at the screen. "What!? Thank god he's using a car! If he were running, I'd be doomed!" The race started, and Sonicson was absurdly fast, rivaling anything Sakaki had faced before. The track itself felt like it was designed to maximize Sonic's speed. Every turn was an opportunity for Sonic to gain momentum, and straightaways gave him an almost unfair advantage. The car itself had a unique mechanic where, if it stayed at top speed long enough, it would enter "Super Spin Mode," momentarily making it invincible and even faster.
After numerous retries, Sakaki finally found a way to take advantage of the final stretch. Using a well-timed drift boost, he managed to maintain just enough speed to barely cross the finish line before Sonicson. The moment he won, a special victory screen appeared, showing Zabo-man standing next to his car, giving a thumbs-up and say "You did it!, You beat the cocky Hedgehog!, You are very cool!" While Sonic sat in the background with his arms crossed, smirking.
Slumping back into his seat, Sakaki let out a deep breath. He had finally beaten Rad Racers. The experience had been beyond incredible. But instead of feeling finished, he was already thinking about what to do next. Maybe he'd replay the game using different cars in Arcade Mode or try to beat his best times.
"ZAGE games never disappoint," he muttered with a grin before diving right back into Rad Racers for another round.
