Although the night was cold, Roulan seemed different in the darkness, almost glowing as she stepped closer, sitting beside me on my mattress.
A loud, high-pitched squeak filled the night as I looked at the girl beside me.
"I’m not going to do anything, John, so calm down."
She let out another dry laugh while I tried to figure out what to say.
"It’s not me who would need to calm down, right? If I look back on it, isn’t it you who always flirts with me first?"
Roulan turned bright red and couldn’t meet my gaze.
"That’s why when you came into my room like that, it was clear to me what you wanted."
I enjoyed the rare chance to tease Jiang Roulan; her face turned red as she turned away, hitting my thigh with a huff, but she didn’t deny my question.
After a few moments, she calmed down and took a deep breath. "You’re right, I’m... well, I wanted to be with you. At least tonight, before everything goes mad."
’I should be the one saying those words.’ Her expression softened while looking at the moon.
She leaned against me, pushing her body closer than I expected.
"I never thought we’d be here, or that if you did fulfil my request, it would never have felt so real."

"Haha... well, the situation is strange, imagine thinking the dead would walk the earth a few months ago?"

No, she seemed drunk, even though the scent of whisky lingered on her breath, I wondered if she would change things to make up with her family sooner, but if that happened would I meet her in the same way, would we be right now, side-by-side, able to feel each other’s body heat.
"I... don’t know if I would." The words felt heavy on my tongue, but I had no other answer. "I’m not sure how much my knowledge can change, and right now, there’s too much unknown. Also..." I hesitated, turning to face Roulan.
She looked up at me, curious eyes tracing my features before smiling, "Also?" She repeated.
"Would I have met you and Qinglan, or would I only have been able to see her as my boss? Would you all still be here if I didn’t do what I did?"
There was a fear that if I changed, what would happen? Would I still gain this System, or what if Jiang Roulan died in another place... I might be able to save Old Lei, but when considering my past actions, could I repeat them and survive again?
I didn’t have the same confidence as those regression characters in novels.
Because I couldn’t remember things from the day before, let alone plots and characters from a tiny novel or every event I endured accurately.
