Upon opening the door, they were hit by cold air that seemed to tell them that they had found the cold storage.
Inside, the room was about fifty square meters and was filled with all kinds of meat. There were livestock, seafood, chickens, ducks, rabbits, and even pigeons.
They collected everything and moved to another door next to the one leading to the cold storage room. When they opened it they found it was a store room with many food stuff.
There were at least thirty bags of rice, twenty bags of dry noodles, fifteen gallons of oil, dozens of one-kilogram packets of condiments, bottles of soy sauce, oyster sauce, rice vinegar, and other seasonings. There were also several dozens of boxes of bottled water.
Everything in the store went into their space rings. After taking everything there, they went to the next restaurant and repeated the same operation. In half an hour they had cleared the third floor, then headed to the fourth floor.
Just like before, they used the stairs and cleared the zombies on the entire floor. The fourth floor housed a theater and didn’t have many things they could take. However, Chu Miao wanted the popcorn machine. So, she put it in her space.
She spread her spiritual sense to investigate the floor, the same thing she had done on the other floors before leaving. She had found nothing on the lower floors, but she discovered something here.
"There are people on this floor."
"Survivors?" Chu Hao asked.
"Yes, they seemed to have locked themselves in a store room."
Chu Hao also extended his spiritual sense and indeed found four people locked in a store room. There were three men and one woman.
The two felt that since they were there, they might as well do a good deed and rescue them.
Thus, they walked to the storeroom door and knocked. No one opened the door or made a sound.
Chu Miao knocked again and called out.
"The people inside, you can leave now and hurry home before more zombies surround this place. We have already cleared the ones on this floor and the lower floors. Leave quickly; if you don’t leave now, you’ll be in trouble later."
As she finished speaking, the door was opened and a man about thirty years old peeked outside. Seeing the siblings, he swung the door fully open and called out to his companions.
"Come on, they are people, not those monsters."
After hearing his statement, the others came to the door and the woman thanked the siblings.
"Thank you for your help, but have those zombies really been killed?"
"We only killed the ones in the parking lot and those on the lower floors. It is safe to leave now, but you must drive to safety once you are outside." Chu Miao replied to her.
One of the men, who looked to be fifty years old and wearing a suit with a protruding beer belly, came forward and asked, "Why don’t you just be a good person to the end and escort us home? We can pay you for your trouble."
"Yes, you already helped us kill the zombies anyway, why not take us home? The other man who had not spoken also made his thoughts known.
Upon hearing what they said, the man who opened the door and the woman who had thanked them had ugly faces. Even they felt that the two had gone too far. Someone volunteered to rescue you but you take it for granted as if you are entitled. What attitude was that?
Chu Miao observed their reaction and knew that at least two of them were worth saving. She did not entirely waste her time.
Chu Hao, on the other hand,, exploded.
"We saved because we thought you were fellow humans not because you are entitled to be rescued. Also, you say you will pay us to send you home, who do you think you are?"
"I am the manager of this cinema, I can afford to pay you two for your trouble. Why make it sound like you are giving charity. I can pay you a thousand yuan for your trouble." Answered the man in a suit.
Chu Hao almost vomited three liters of blood when he heard that. Chu Miao was also amused by the man’s logic. It almost sounded like he was giving them alms, and he was the one doing them a favor.
"Mr. Mu, you shouldn’t talk to them like that. They saved us." The woman came forward to try and make peace only to be rebuffed.
"Shut up! You are just a small ticket seller. Who are you to tell me what to do? Be careful or I will fire you."
Even Chu Miao was astonished by the man’s delusion. It was already the apocalypse, did anyone still need their old jobs? He was still putting on the airs of a superior at this time.
The woman didn’t back down. She had watched the news and followed everything happening around the world on her phone the whole night. She knew that the world had changed and could not go back to the way it was.
"I don’t need you to fire me. I quit." After saying that, she turned to the siblings and said, "Thank you for your help. We will leave immediately."
She then turned to the man who had opened the door and asked if he was leaving. He said he was. He also turned to thank Chu Miao and her brother.
"Thank you benefactors."
Hearing the two say they were leaving the other man supporting his boss asked, "Are you really going to leave? You are not afraid of losing your job?"
Chu Hao couldn’t take it anymore. "What losing their jobs, with the world in collapse, who would still work? And even if they do, this mall belongs to my family. I can hire them to replace your ungrateful manager."
Upon hearing his statement, the manager looked up so quickly his neck must have gotten a whiplash. "Mr. Chu?" He had thought that the young man looked familiar but ignored it. Now he knew why he looked familiar. That was his boss.
