He didn’t believe that his sister would not find a decent man other than Lei Qian. He turned to look at Bai Meiyue and said to her, "Yueyue, don’t worry. Brother Jixuan is with you; there is no need for you to let that man play you around by your nose."
"Got it," Bai Meiyue nodded with her lips twitching.
She glanced at the door and shrugged; even if Lei Qian was offended, it had nothing to do with her. If this was enough to make him despise her, then Bai Meiyue didn’t want to bother with that arrogant young master. She turned around and headed upstairs, where she exchanged the remaining crystal nuclei that she had stored with the system.

But even after exchanging so many nuclei, Bai Meiyue realised that it was nowhere near enough to open the third level of the barter system. Seeing this, Bai Meiyue couldn’t help but frown. A shrill voice stopped Bai Zhan when he was returning after cleaning the zombies on the corner of the street.

Fang Qing wanted to raise her voice at him like she used to in the past but she then recalled that Bai Zhan had awakened as an ability user. This man was no longer the same man whom she could pinch and scold as she liked.
Her face turned red with embarrassment and she pulled at her father’s sleeve.
Father Feng looked at his daughter and sighed. He raised his head and looked at Bai Zhan before asking, "Ah Zhan, I know that we have ... done some really bad things to you and the two children. But—can you help us?"
"H—half a loaf of bread is enough for us," he added with a flushed face.
Bai Zhan caught a glimpse of Mother Feng hiding at the corner of the stairs as he raised his gaze and looked at his father-in-law.
She and Fang Qing must know that it was impossible for them to get food or supplies from him; thus, they asked Father Fang to come and ask for supplies. Compared to the two of them, Father Fang had a much better relationship with Bai Zhan.
Bai Zhan sighed. If possible, he would have helped his father-in-law, but after recalling the things that his sister had taught him, he dared not to show any kindness to this family.
