That man didn’t awaken any skills. Thus, he had no idea how it felt when an ability user ran out of power. Once she overexhausted her abilities, she would faint. Her entire body would twitch with pain and hunger as if countless needles were pressing against her skin. This was the kind of pain that Su Hu could never understand.
But no matter what she told Su Hu, he still insisted on taking her to the army.
The promises that he made to her were also charming; he kept telling her that as long as she was willing to go to the army, he would be able to get a job and that way the two of them would be able to make a living in this rotten place. If the two of them escaped this place, then she didn’t have to worry about anything.
He also told her that as long as they worked hard, this base would become their future home. Though Xiang Mei was a smart woman, she was also emotional when it came to certain things. Thus, the second Su Hu promised her that he was going to marry her and raise a family with her, she could no longer stop herself from falling for his lies.
However, as she stood in front of the military base, Xiang Mei felt really scared and frightened.
"Do we really have to do this?" Xiang Mei asked as the two of them came to a stop in front of Fox’s house. The man didn’t live far from where they lived; this was all for the sake of convenience.
After all, there were many ability users that he was eyeing in the sunshine complex and wished to take control of them.
As they stepped out, the countless soldiers who were guarding outside turned around and looked at them with a hint of wariness in their eyes, which made Xiang Mei even more worried. She stepped close to Su Hu, who raised his hands in the air and said, "We came here in peace." He told them, "It was Master Fox who asked us to come here if we wanted to join the army. She is an ability user and I think Master Fox would like her."
The soldier in charge paused when he heard the words of Su Hu and nodded. He raised his head and looked at the man in front of him with a hint of annoyance on his face. However, as he peered back at Xiang Mei, who was paler than the moon that was shining in the sky, he nodded and said, "Wait here."
After speaking, he turned on his feet and walked inside the house, where Fox resided.
It didn’t take long for the soldier to step out of the mansion as he headed towards the two of them. He said to them, "You can go in now."
"Thank you, thank you very much," said Su Hu as he bowed his head in gratitude. He then grabbed Xiang Mei and brought her inside the mansion; however, just as he was about to enter the mansion, he was stopped by the soldiers who were guarding, and one of them said, "Only the ability user is allowed."
"But... but how can this be done?" Su Hu asked. He became anxious when he thought that they were asking for Xiang Mei to head inside alone. He didn’t let go of her hand as he was worried that they would snatch Xiang Mei from him. Of course, he was not worried about Xiang Mei; the only thing that he was worried about was the official position that Fox had promised him.
What if that man didn’t give him what he promised after taking Xiang Mei from him? This woman was his one and only ace card!
"...I can’t let her go inside alone. I only sent her here because I was told that I could see with my own eyes that Xiang Mei would be treated better. If I can’t see her doing well, how can I leave her here with ease?"
"That can’t be done. Do you think that this is a park? You can go in and out as you please? Just leave if you think that we cannot be trusted, it’s not like we are dying to take a third rank ability user."
As soon as the voice of the soldier in charge started rising, the other soldiers also raised their guns in their hands and aimed them at Su Hu. even though they were saying that yhey didn’t need Xiang Mei, their stance was clear if Xiang Mei didn’t go inside then they would shoot Su Hu to death.
If the man next to Xiang Mei was bolder, he would have fought back and tried to save the life of the woman next to him, but Su Hu was the kind of man who would rather save his skin than his woman.
He had once thrown Bai Meiyue away because she couldn’t give him what he wanted. This time, as well, when the second thing turned south, he couldn’t say anything to the soldiers and was about to almost kneel down on the floor.
