"Yo... it looks like that thing is quite fast, eh," said Lei Qian as he watched the zombie stop not far from them. It was still staring at them with its beady eyes and growling. The monster kept looking around as if he were looking for a way to break through their defences. See, just as he said. It was really smart.
Lei Qian summoned his sword and rushed at the zombie. He swung left and right, but the level three zombie seemed to understand his every move. He dodged without a thought and then ran to hide in the dark corner once again. Its jagged and broken teeth clenched together as it hissed at Lei Qian, realising that it had finally run into a tough opponent.
"Close your ears!" Bai Meiyue shouted when the zombie threw his head back. She knew that it was going to let out the death howl.
Lei Qian followed her command and closed his ears without asking. A second later, the zombie let out an earth-shattering howl that made the entire space shatter and crumble. Lei Qian could feel his head throbbing under the impact of the howl.
Once the zombie stopped howling, Lei Qian brought his hands down, and even though he didn’t hear it, he could feel his limbs shaking. If he had heard it, he knew that he would have been knocked unconscious by this thing. A rather convenient way for it to feed on its prey.
"You are playing a rather risky game," Lei Qian sneered as he summoned a fire snake. He had learnt this skill from Bai Meiyue and had to try countless times before he could use it perfectly.
The flaming snake appeared from the tips of his fingers and then charged at the zombie that hid behind the second the snake appeared. The snake smashed against the wall, leaving a charred mess behind, but Lei Qian knew that the zombie was still alive.
Bai Meiyue, sensing danger, created a water platform which allowed the two of them to rise just enough to escape the zombie’s clutches lest it attack from underground.
Turned out that Bai Meiyue was right in thinking so. Because the second she created the water platform, the zombie that was hiding underneath the ground lunged out and attacked. However, its claws went past the water pillar on which the water platform was created.
Bai Meiyue shouted, and Lei Qian lunged down before shooting a handful of fireballs at the zombie.
The zombie let out a bone-chilling roar as it tried to swat the fire off its body. From its actions, Bai Meiyue realised that this zombie might have faced first- or second-rank fire ability users. Their powers must have been too weak to kill it, and that was how this zombie survived for so long.
Fortunately, Lei Qian was a powerful ability user or else!
Bai Meiyue descended down the water platform and looked at the hissing corpse. She was about to take the crystal nuclei out when Lei Qian stopped her. He said, "Stay away; we don’t know what kind of skills it’s hiding. I will take the crystal nuclei out, and you can take them from me."
Then, without waiting for her to speak, he walked over and opened the skull of the zombie before pulling out the crystal nuclei. He wiped it clean and even heated it slightly to make sure that the nuclei were free of any germs.
When Bai Meiyue saw his actions, it went without saying that she was touched. In her past life, she had only run into greedy and selfish men who wanted to use her body or her skills. It was really hard to find a man who would run in front of her and protect her with his life.
She took the crystal nucleus, which was as big as a diamond and said in a low voice, "You need to stop doing this or else I will kill you if you ever walk out of my life."
After speaking, she turned around on her feet and headed inside the mansion.
Lei Qian stood outside while looking at Bai Meiyue with a shocked look on his face. He was staring at her as if he had been hit by a sledgehammer and pursed his lips, his face going through a cycle of shock, relish, helplessness and then finally joy. He rushed after Bai Meiyue and said to her, "You want to keep me with you all your life? Then you can. I am willing. I have many uses. I can keep you warm, carry the child when he is crying at night, feed you, protect you and even satisfy —"
Bai Meiyue raised her hand and placed it on his mouth. She glared at him and said to him, "Our son is big enough to understand these things. How can you say such words to me when your son is around?"
Our son will be around us for the next four months; am I not allowed to say anything till then? Lei Qian blinked his eyes naively at his wife, who narrowed her eyes, and he raised his hands in the air right away. "I understand, madam."
Only then did Bai Meiyue snort and then turn to walk toward the mansion.
As the two of them came to a stop in front of the mansion, the sound of scraping and howling intensified.
"There must be level one zombies inside the mansion. They were hiding away because of the presence of the level three zombie. Now that its aura has disappeared, they have become more violent and bloodthirsty."
This world followed the law of the jungle strictly.
Earlier, these zombies didn’t make a move because they were afraid to be absorbed by the level three zombies, but now that the one dominating them had disappeared, their hunger had rushed forward.
"Step back," said Lei Qian as he raised his sword and slashed at the wooden door, causing the zombies to surged forward like a tidal wave.
