Taking off his mask left the viewers in the livestream stunned.
“What’s Big Brother doing? Not wearing a mask? Showing his real face?”
“Maybe he wants to let his skin breathe after wearing it for so long?”
“You think Big Brother is some delicate girl? He’s definitely up to something big!”
“I bet he’s trying to lure them out, right?”
The viewers made all sorts of guesses. And some of them were right. Wang Yun took off his mask to lure the snakes out of hiding. If they wanted to hire a hitman to kill him, he’d give them a chance to act.
Wang Yun’s plan was simple: force them to reveal themselves.
Brother Hu figured it out as soon as he saw Wang Yun showing his real face.
“Boss, this is too dangerous. Everyone out there is hunting for you. If they spot you, you’ll be fighting on two fronts,” Brother Hu tried to stop him, handing back the mask. “Let me go instead. At least I’m safer.”
Brother Hu’s face turned red. “Fine, then I’ll go with you.”
Wang Yun quickly raised his hand to stop him. “No way. If you get hurt, I don’t want to have to carry you again. My back is strong, but not that strong.”
Little Gang couldn’t hold back a laugh.
“What are you laughing at? You’ve never made Boss carry you!” Brother Hu snapped at Little Gang, who quickly shut up.
“Alright, enough bickering. I’m heading out. Keep your eyes open and stay alert. Don’t get caught. There are plenty of lunch vendors around, so grab a bite if you’re hungry, but don’t draw attention. Wait for my signal.”
After giving these serious instructions, Wang Yun put on a hat and headed out.
The area was full of new developments and surrounded by many villages.
Wang Yun wandered around the urban-rural fringe. Based on his predictions, these people were likely to be hiding in remote, poorly maintained areas. Given the pressure they were under, the likelihood of them living in a lavish place was practically zero. Therefore, Wang Yun didn’t need to head into the city. He just had to roam around the outskirts.
The main danger he faced was the show’s inspection team, who would probably guess his location. Ironically, the city might be safer, and this area would be more dangerous. But he had no time to worry about that. His goal was to draw attention.
And what better way to attract attention than staging a scene? The most effective scene to cause a stir was a scam accident.
Wang Yun wandered around and found a relocation housing complex. This complex was the largest in Xiyun City, home to migrant workers and residents displaced by demolition.
‘This is the spot,’ Wang Yun thought, noticing the nearby internet café and bustling vegetable market.
He stopped near the market, picked up some dirt, and smeared it on himself to look disheveled and down on his luck.
A car with four rings in the logo approached from a distance. The windows were down, blasting loud dance music. The occupants seemed like kindred spirits, young and carefree. The car wasn’t speeding, but in the busy market area, it stood out. The passenger seat was occupied by a girl with dyed green hair, a cigarette dangling from her hand.
Wang Yun casually watched them.
‘Perfect timing!’ he thought.
As the car neared, Wang Yun pretended to stumble, and with a thud, he fell against the car.
The car came to a sudden stop, and onlookers immediately turned their heads.
“Hey! Watch where you’re driving! You ran over my foot!” Wang Yun shouted, immediately seizing the upper hand.
The market crowd, mostly elderly, loved a good spectacle and quickly gathered around, craning their necks to see.
“Who the hell are you? I didn’t even touch you,” shouted the young man who got out of the car, a cigarette in his mouth and anger in his eyes. Despite his bravado, there was a hint of panic.
Wang Yun saw the guy’s panicked expression and immediately knew he had picked the wrong target. This car probably wasn’t his.
“You ran over my foot! Why were you driving so fast in a market?” Wang Yun yelled, playing the part of an unreasonable ruffian perfectly. “I was walking just fine! You didn’t even look where you were going. Driving a fancy car doesn’t make you special!” he continued, adding to the growing crowd’s interest.
“Bullshit! Your shoe doesn’t even have a tire mark. It’s not dirty at all. Honey, this guy is obviously a scammer,” shouted the girl, getting out of the car with more confidence than the driver.
“Sure, call the police. And call an ambulance too. I’m the victim here, and now you’re accusing me,” Wang Yun shot back.
“Your speed was already breaking the law. And you got out with a cigarette in your hand. Let’s see what the cops say about that,” Wang Yun said loudly, drawing more attention.
The young man quickly tossed his cigarette, glancing around nervously.
“You’re talking nonsense. Your foot isn’t hurt at all. Stop scamming people, man.”
The young man stepped up to Wang Yun, trying to look tough.
Wang Yun glanced at the car and noticed it was still in drive, meaning the guy didn’t even know how to properly park it.
“Me, a scammer? Why would I stick my foot out to get run over? You want to call the cops? Let’s do it. We’ll see who they deal with first,” Wang Yun said, lowering his voice and looking the guy in the eye.
The young man’s eyes widened with fear, confirming Wang Yun’s suspicions.
“Alright, fine. You just want money, right? Here’s two hundred bucks. Now get lost.”
The young man threw the money at Wang Yun.
“Honey, what are you doing? Everyone can see this guy is a scammer. We live in this complex, we shouldn’t be afraid of him,” the girl shouted angrily.
This emboldened the nearby onlookers, who stepped closer. Indeed, Wang Yun’s clean shoes made it obvious he was faking it.
