As a Grey Knight In Naruto Chapter 10

"Preparation is not paranoia when shadows gather without sound."

The underground base, once a mere carved-out training den, had grown into something more, a hidden sanctuary beneath the quiet forest of the Land of Waves. The air was always cool down here, damp with the smell of stone and earth, and faintly buzzing with chakra signatures etched into the walls by relentless Earth Release shaping.

Morning light filtered in only through a small air shaft Hajime had carved to vent smoke from his makeshift lanterns. That faint line of golden sun traced across the floor, cutting across scrolls, charcoal maps, and torn parchment filled with sketches of chakra pathways, fighting stances, and plans, endless plans.

Hajime sat at his stone desk, bare-chested and sweating, a damp towel draped over one shoulder as he hovered over a rough map of the Land of Waves' coastal line. His muscles had hardened over the years, honed by earth-weighted training tools and endless repetitions. His mind, once dulled by mundane modern life, was sharp now, careful, calculating, burdened with purpose.

He tapped a spot on the map with his finger: the portside warehouse.

The rumors hadn't stopped. A child from the neighboring village. Missing fishermen. Calm seas. No wreckage. Hajime's gut screamed the same name every time.

Gato.

He exhaled slowly, then leaned back and stared at the ceiling of reinforced stone and chakra-hardened pillars.

"I don't know if he's made his move yet… but it's happening. The pattern's too clear."

Still, there were too many unknowns. He hadn't found physical evidence. No solid confirmation of hostages or mercenary meetings. All he had were whispers in the market and that lingering dread deep in his bones.

He wasn't ready.

Not for a real battle.

Not for what might be waiting.

His thoughts drifted, unbidden, to two names from another lifetime, two names etched in the foundation of the early Naruto arc.

Zabuza Momochi.

Haku.

He stood up and crossed the room to another table, where he'd drawn battle diagrams, chakra theories, and lists of canon facts he could recall from memory. He stared at the ones he'd written in darker ink, ringed in red:

"Demon of the Hidden Mist."

"Ice Release Bloodline."

"Loyal to Gato for payment."

"Loyal to each other for everything else."

He had no way of knowing if they were already here. Maybe Gato hadn't hired them yet. Maybe he never would. But the moment their names entered his planning space, the stakes changed.

Zabuza was suicide.

Haku… maybe not.

Hajime sat back down and began outlining two branches of action:

Plan A – No Zabuza Yet

Observation: Sneak into the outskirts of the suspected hideout at the docks. Use Earth Release tunneling techniques to approach unseen.

Extraction Strategy: Create a narrow, silent crawlspace to the hostage location. Dig out enough space to let captives escape while minimizing noise.

Combat Preparation: Use low-chakra Earth-style techniques—Foot-Grip Bind, Earthen Slip—to disable guards quickly and quietly.

Escape Route: Build multiple exit shafts leading into the nearby forest. Collapse them afterward to cover the trail.

Plan B – Zabuza or Haku Are Present

Abort any direct combat.

Observation only.

If Haku is present, attempt emotional diversion or passive engagement. Remember: he avoids killing unless ordered.

If Zabuza is spotted, do not engage. Retreat.

He drew a deep breath and added a question to the corner of the scroll:

"Can Haku be reasoned with?"

He remembered that quiet, mournful expression. The way Haku had spared Naruto when he didn't have to. How he had fought only because of loyalty, not bloodlust. Haku was fast, skilled, and dangerous—but not heartless.

And more importantly, Zabuza's weakness.

"If I have to make one of them hesitate… it's him."

Hajime stood and walked over to the far alcove of the chamber, where he stored practical tools. His equipment was basic—just what he could buy from traveling merchants or craft himself. No fūinjutsu, no tags, no storage scrolls. But he'd worked with what he had.

He picked up a satchel and began packing:

A pair of kunai.

A basic field medical kit.

A compact meal ration wrapped in wax paper.

A change of clothes.

A small wooden rabbit — the one Koji had carved and gifted him.

He tied the satchel shut and slung it over his shoulder.

Then he moved to the far wall, the one closest to the coastline. He knelt and pressed his hand to the stone. A slow breath, focused chakra, and the floor began to split with barely a sound — revealing a narrow crawl tunnel leading toward the docks.

It had taken him days to dig it in secret. A slow, inch-by-inch job reinforced with Earth Release hardening techniques at regular intervals.

He didn't know what he'd find at the end.

But he knew he wouldn't stand still.

He returned to the desk one last time and scribbled a note:

Contingency Note – If I Don't Return

Check the tunnel beneath the east bluff.

If captives are found, alert the headwoman or the merchants' guild.

Tell Granny Kiko I regret not finishing her story.

He folded the note and tucked it inside a hidden drawer in the base, that will be exposed in a heavy rain.

He exhaled deeply and looked around his sanctuary, the glowing stone lanterns, the chakra-smoothed floors, the gym weights molded from compressed earth. All built by his hands, from knowledge born of another world and desperation in this one.

He touched the stone wall softly.

"Let's hope it's just mercs."

He opened the tunnel and crawled into the dark, earth sealing behind him as he vanished into the belly of the island, one step closer to answers… or war.
