Looking at her serious face and bright eyes, Qi Taiguo’s heart was stirred, and he lowered her head to kiss her lips.
Lips and tongues entwining, the kiss was passionate and heartfelt.
After a while, Qi Taiguo released her as his breathing became unsteady, and used his thumb to wipe the sparkle at the corner of her mouth, complaining softly, "I really miss you."
Cheng Su gave him a smack on the shoulder, "Old lecher!"
Qi Taiguo took the opportunity to grab her hand and kissed it, "I’m just being honest," he said, then pinched her chest.
Cheng Su cried out, calling him a lecher in response while her hands retaliated against him.
The two of them played around for a while before they looked at each other and burst into laughter.
"Seeing you working on your career, I sometimes think, why don’t I just join the demobilization in August and go into business with you?" Qi Taiguo said as he looked at her.
"Don’t you dare," Cheng Su glared at him, "I really like having a commander husband, it sounds so impressive. If you’re capable and smart enough, you’ll make it up there eventually. Don’t do anything foolish."
"You have that much confidence in me?" Qi Taiguo raised an eyebrow.
"Of course, you’re only twenty-eight years old, the future is limitless," Cheng Su counted on her fingers, "Let me tell you, don’t worry about the business, I’ll earn the money, I’ll have the kids. All you need to do is get me the title of ’commander’s wife’, spoil me and take care of me, that’s enough."
After she finished speaking, she got up and walked away. Qi Taiguo pursed his lips with a smile, his eyes shining with a glint of light.
She said they should stand at the same height, so now she was working towards that, and he had to work hard too.
"Oh, by the way, mom called today, said that my elder sister has just finished her confinement and invited us to the full moon celebration. I don’t think we can make it back, so should we send something for the baby, or what?" Qi Taiguo remembered the phone call he had received that day.
The call had come in the afternoon, and as soon as he answered, his mother started rattling off about Qi Fenglian’s grievances, about how they hardly let her eat properly during her confinement, how miserable it was, and so on.
As the conversation turned to the full moon celebration and whether they could make it, Qi Taiguo knew Cheng Su definitely couldn’t leave, so he simply said there was training at the base and they couldn’t leave. He was also concerned his mother might be upset thinking Cheng Su should return but didn’t, so he lied about the heat and the training being strenuous, told her to cook some soup and such, and not to let his wife come back either.
Upon hearing this, his mother just said to forget about coming back, but then she circled around to ask if they had any news.
Qi Taiguo felt anxious at the question, fearing the worst—his parents asking when they would have grandchildren. He had to vaguely deflect by saying they had just gotten married and it wasn’t happening so soon.
Even so, his mother was quite discontent, urging them to have children while she and his father were still able to help take care of them, leaving Qi Taiguo feeling deeply troubled.
"Tomorrow I’ll go to the city and buy a couple of little outfits, then go to the post office to send some money back, as a nutrition supplement for my elder sister. What do you think?" Cheng Su pondered for a moment before suggesting.
Qi Taiguo didn’t understand much about these social expectations, but hearing Cheng Su’s plan seemed okay, so he agreed. Then he thought of his siblings and hesitated a bit.
"What’s the matter? Is there something else?" Cheng Su asked, noticing his expression.
"August is approaching, and Jianguo and Fengping... their tuition...," Qi Taiguo began, "This month’s allowance, should I send it to them for tuition?"
"I’ll send it along then," Cheng Su replied without hesitation. "When the time comes, just tell mom to allocate some for your elder sister, that would be fine!"
Qi Taiguo was deeply moved, walked over to her and gave her a kiss, "My wife is really wonderful!"
