The weather was too cold, and Cheng Su, having spent another day at the company dealing with the jam tampering issue, lacked the appetite to make anything complicated, so she simply made two bowls of noodles, topped them with two sunny-side-up eggs, and sliced up some braised beef for the two of them to eat.
With troubles weighing on their minds, they finished dinner, went through their nightly routines, and went to bed early. After a bout of intense affection, they finally lay in bed, holding each other and talking.
Qi Taiguo was the first to bring up Cheng Su’s hand injury. He grabbed her hand to examine it; wounds heal slowly in the winter, and now there was only a scab in her palm.
Having been away from home for so many days and with quite a few things having taken place on his end, Cheng Su slowly began to recount everything starting with that injury.
When he heard that Ying Xiaoya had tried to harm herself, Qi Taiguo’s eyebrows furrowed and he said, "Is that all she’s capable of? Seeking death at the slightest provocation?"
Cheng Su gave him a look and hummed through her nose, "You say it as if it’s nothing, don’t you know how much women value their chastity?"
"But that doesn’t mean she should commit suicide, right? Life is more important, isn’t it?" Qi Taiguo said.
Cheng Su, of course, agreed and sighed, "She’s always been naive and inexperienced; it was just a moment of impulse. She’s fine now!"
"You’re foolish too, foolishly rushing up there and grabbing the glass with your bare hands – who do you think you are? If she had struggled and seriously injured you, leaving a big hole, what would you use to compensate me?" Qi Taiguo glared at her again.
Knowing full well she was at fault, Cheng Su softly said, "I didn’t think that much at the moment, I was just focused on saving her." Then, snuggling into his chest, she cooed, "I am already like this, so stop scolding me!"
Qi Taiguo grunted and said, reluctantly, "You, always a handful!" After a pause, he asked, "What about that guy, how is he now?"
Cheng Su sneered, "What else could have happened? He had evil intentions and deserved the consequences. I heard he got into a car accident and is now crippled."
"Good riddance!" Qi Taiguo exclaimed approvingly.
"Let’s not talk about this anymore, I feel disgusted even thinking about that person’s face," Cheng Su said.
"Hmm, anything else?"
"Today, our company was reported for selling expired products, and it’s about to be reported in the newspaper!" Cheng Su said further.
Qi Taiguo, startled, was about to get up: "What?"
"Listen to me and let me explain," Cheng Su pressed down on his waist.
Qi Taiguo had no choice but to settle down and listen to her.
Cheng Su recounted the day’s events in detail, including the jam incident and who was behind the tampering.
"So, you mean there’s no idea yet who instigated it?" Qi Taiguo asked.
Cheng Su hummed an affirmation and said, "That Chen Zhiquan was only following orders, affixing the labels and selling them as our product, and now the news is being suppressed and hasn’t been released."
"We still need to clear this up; otherwise, who knows what people will think? They might assume it’s your family’s jam. It would not reflect well and could further tarnish your company’s reputation," Qi Taiguo suggested.
"I was thinking the same thing. I’ve been dealing with it all day and I’m tired. I’ll continue investigating tomorrow!" Cheng Su yawned, her eyelids starting to fight each other.
"I just got back and I’ll have some days off. Do you need my help with anything?" Qi Taiguo, seeing her like this, inquired, "By the way, why are you the only one handling this? Where’s that kid Ning Ge?"
Cheng Su yawned again: "He said he had to deal with something abroad and hasn’t returned yet."
Qi Taiguo felt somewhat dissatisfied. Was this kid too unreliable, leaving all the trouble for a woman to handle? When he came back, Qi Taiguo would have to have a serious talk with him!
