Gu Jin put the apple and cherries down, donned a coat, and stepped over An Mingji to get off the bed.
She walked to the door and opened it, seeing Gu Jiajie, Wu Zhiren, and Liu Pingyuan standing outside.
"You’re leaving now?"
As Gu Jin stepped out of the house, she glanced at the clock; it was not yet eleven.
Liu Pingyuan spoke up, "Yes, we plan to leave early and return early."
Yesterday’s business was too good, so they decided to leave early today, and take the chance to wander around the black market to buy some other things before coming back.
"Alright, then go and load the meat onto the bicycles."
Gu Jin walked out of the room and closed the door, leading the four of them to the wooden board where the wild boar meat was placed.
She turned on the flashlight she brought from inside and aimed half of the light on the wild boar meat on the wooden board.
The meat had already been divided into five portions by Uncle Gu, neatly placed on the board.
"Take this piece to sell at the black market." Gu Jin pointed to the largest piece, then to another with particularly fatty meat: "And this piece too."
The two pieces of wild boar meat could be handled easily by Liu Pingyuan and Wu Zhiren.
Gu Jin stopped her cousin who wanted to help: "Jiajie, this time go to the county and ask if anyone is buying ginseng and if so, find out at what price."
"Alright, anything else?"
"That’s it. Be careful on the road."
Gu Jin escorted her cousin out the door, as Liu Pingyuan and Wu Zhiren had already tied the boar meat to the bicycles, waiting to depart together with Gu Jiajie.
"Xiao Jin, you can go back now; we’re leaving."
"Okay."
Watching the backs of the three fade away, Gu Jin went back inside, locked the main door, and returned to bed to sleep.
She knew her cousin would climb over the wall to open the door and there was no need to leave it open for them.
Returning to her bed, Gu Jin soon fell asleep.
She slept until daylight, and when she woke, the little pup beside her was still asleep.
Thinking of the apple and cherries she brought out from the space last night, she placed them by An Mingji’s pillow, so that he could see them upon waking.
Carrying a washbasin out of the house, Gu Jin noticed the bicycles in the yard, knowing her cousin and the others had returned, but unsure when.
"Xiao Jin—"
Hearing someone call her, Gu Jin turned around.
The window of Gu Jiajie’s room was opened, his upper body already out.
He waved, "Xiao Jin, come over."
Seeing his tired eyes, she knew he hadn’t rested well, maybe hadn’t even slept yet.
Gu Jin placed the washbasin by the well and walked towards her cousin’s room.
Upon arriving at her cousin’s room, Gu Jin found Liu Pingyuan and Wu Zhiren there as well.
