Huo Beijiang narrowed his eyes, looking her up and down. According to what he had heard, Jiang Yang had fallen into the river while under Zhuanzhuan’s care. The villagers gave conflicting accounts and the reason for his fall remained unclear.
Only Jiang Zhuanzhuan knew the real truth.
His gaze casually swept over the girl’s broken, blood-streaked fingers. He beckoned a nurse from the nearby nurse station. “Please bandage her fingers.”
Looking at Zhuanzhuan’s fingers, the nurse got goosebumps. All her fingernails were damaged, the dried blood and turned over nails had been there for a long time and yet, she seemed totally oblivious.
It hurt just to look at it.
“Come with me! Don’t you feel the pain?” The nurse handled her hand carefully.
Zhuanzhuan shook her head. “No problem! It doesn’t hurt anymore.”
“How is that possible, you little girl.” The nurse, a middle-aged woman, her eyes brimming with maternal love, said, “Your sister is alright now. Don’t be sad.”
As Zhuanzhuan followed the nurse to the treatment room, she turned around slowly and said, “Brother-in-law, I want to tell you what happened.”
“Alright!” Huo Beijiang gestured to Ying Jiuming, who was waiting not far away, and followed.
He wanted to understand the full story and Zhuanzhuan undoubtedly knew the most accurate details.
In the treatment room, Zhuanzhuan sat on the chair, letting the nurse clean her wounds while recounting the event from beginning to end. Her version was very detailed, unbiased and even the part where she came up with the idea to let the brat scratch Jing Tong’s face was not left out.
The pain of hydrogen peroxide poured on the wound apart from being considerably more hurtful than before, didn’t cause her even to frown. She narrated with a steady pace of speech.
She surprised not only the nurse but also Huo Beijiang.

“You shouldn’t upset the patient,” the nurse admonished, her heart aching even more.
“It’s okay.” Zhuanzhuan shook her head at the nurse, turning to Huo Beijiang, her whole being consumed by guilt and self-blame. “Brother-in-law, it’s all my fault! All of it was my mistake.”
