“Do you think I care about your money!” His voice was low, he returned an unhappy retort and strode away. Seeing his young nephew, he realized he was being ignored, and it dampened his mood further.
Nan Fei was so startled by his response, she didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Watching his retreating towering figure, she gently held Jiang Yang’s hand and whispered, “Jiang Yang, don’t you think Huo Beijiang can be very frustrating?”
“Huo Beijiang?” Jiang Yang’s eyes momentarily flashed with disdain.
“Yes! Isn’t he so repugnant?” Nan Fei got his meaning. As she was about to walk away with him, she remembered that someone left without paying for breakfast.
The uncle selling breakfast was watching her with a benign smile. Nan Fei suddenly remembered that the cheeky words and actions of a certain someone had been witnessed by the uncle.
She instantly blushed like a ripe apple.

“No, not at all naughty,” the uncle reminisced nostalgically, “This boy only came to our town at about the age of four or five. I don’t know where he grew up before that but he was definitely not like the children in our town. He had a look of arrogant indifference as though he was above everyone else.”
As Nan Fei pictured young Huo Beijiang as the uncle described him, she couldn’t help but imagine him in her mind. Suddenly, she was filled with regret for not getting to know him better when they were children.
“The first time he came here for breakfast, he had a fifty-dollar bill in his hand. He bought a bun and grandly told me to keep the change. I still chuckle at the memory.”
Jiang Yang crossed his arms, his eyes clearly showing his disdain. He seemed puzzled as to how Sister Nan Fei could like such a dunce.
After saying goodbye to the breakfast stall owner, Nan Fei secretly left the breakfast money on the table and led Jiang Yang toward a stall selling fresh soy products.
As luck would have it, they ran into Jiang Minmin as they passed the clothing stall. She instinctively wanted to avoid her, but Jiang Minmin reacted even quicker.
