“If I ever ride in your car again, I’d be an idiot.”
All three people in the yard turned to look. Huo Jinlan’s tiny face was ghastly pale, icy, her lips bitten bloody. It was Jiang Nanfei again, always spoiling her good times, like some lingering ghost.
“Brother.” Tears welled up in her eyes, and her voice wavered, filled with grievance. “Brother, why did you come back so late? I’ve been waiting for you at home!”
Huo Beijiang sat on the motorcycle, not dismounting. “I’m sorry, Jinlan, I had to take Nanfei home. I can’t accompany you to the class reunion. I’ll explain when I get back.”
Wu Shanshan widened her eyes in disbelief, staring at Huo Beijiang, then at Huo Jinlan. Finally, she tried to look at the backseat of the motorcycle, but Huo Beijiang’s body blocked her view no matter how hard she tried.
“Brother!” Huo Jinlan screamed in despair. “I am your sister! How could you do this? Time and again you have disappointed me. Jiang Nanfei isn’t even your wife yet. You can’t turn your back on me just yet, right?”
As she spoke, large tears rolled down her cheeks, her weeping eyes were red, and her accusations were broken by her sobs: “As soon as you come back, you spend all day around Jiang Nanfei. What’s so good about her? What about me? Am I not important to you at all as your own sister?”
The smile faded from Huo Beijiang’s handsome face, and when he’s not smiling, there was a terrifying aura in his eyes. Wu Shanshan shrank back, trying to hide herself in the corner.
“Jinlan, what you said is right. You are my sister. I hope you can remember your place.”
Huo Jinlan stumbled, nearly falling over.
“Brother, I was wrong. Don’t be angry, okay? I was really wrong.” She tried to run up and flatter Huo Beijiang, clinging to his arm, but stopped halfway under his icy gaze.
Hesitating, not daring to take another step forward.
Jiang Nanfei, sitting in the back seat of the motorcycle, felt her heart sink heavily after hearing Huo Beijiang’s words. It took her a while to react.
In her previous life, she had always thought that Huo Beijiang did not know about Huo Jinlan’s feelings for him. “You’re not wrong, you’re great. I am the one who was wrong.” She must be crazy, why was she still upset about this? It’s a new beginning. She needed to go home and calm down. Her mind felt like a beehive, buzzing incessantly.
Making her feel completely confused and disoriented.
Hearing her voice tremble, Huo Beijiang immediately softened, slowly releasing her. He got off the motorcycle, watching her retreating figure until she disappeared from view.
