“Why so polite? You already call me sister, so you’re my little sister.” Chen Cuihua gave her a quick once-over to make sure she was alright before asking, “What’s all this on the floor? Tell me you didn’t stay up all night drawing?”
Nan Fei scratched her head embarrassedly, “I completely forgot!” She had locked herself in her room upon getting home yesterday, absorbed in her drawing. She had no idea what she had ended up sketching.
And she had bought these tools for making money, but now she had used up all her drawing paper in one night!
Looking at the paper spread out all over the floor, Nan Fei felt bad. She was short on money to indulge in her hobby, and using all this paper to draw portraits, that’s ten dollars a piece!
She shouldn’t let herself succumb to her past.
Chen Cuihua noticed her upset expression but decided not to press. She squatted down and randomly picked up a piece of paper, her eyes growing wide at the sight.
Judging from her many years of collecting posters and calendars of glamorous women, the sketches were excellently drawn!
“Did you draw these? They’re brilliant! Gorgeous,” Chen Cuihua exclaimed as she picked up one sketch after another, growing fonder of them by the minute, especially the fashion designs, dresses, gowns and so on.
Designs she had never seen before!
“These are so beautiful!”
Nan Fei glanced down and realized that she had indeed been drawing designs for clothes, probably thinking yesterday about making money by sketching fashion designs.
Although she hadn’t formally studied fashion design in her previous life, like any woman who appreciates beauty, she kept up with current fashion trends.
She also subscribed to all kinds of fashion magazines.
Moreover, as someone who drew, she naturally had unique insights and aesthetic appreciation. So, sketching fashion design drafts was like second nature to her.
“It’s just some random drawing, if you like them, you can have them,” Nan Fei said, squatting down to help clean up. But when her hand touched the paper at the bottom of the pile, she suddenly froze.
It wasn’t a stunningly beautiful design sketch, but a sketch of a car accident scene.
A car speeding by, a woman thrown into the air by the impact. A man rushing out from a gate, and a figure in black lurking at the corner across the street.
Nan Fei gawked, her hand holding the paper trembling violently.
This…this was a scene from moments before her death!
Frantically, Nan Fei picked up the papers one by one, horrified to realize that most of the sketches scattered on the floor featured the same scene. There were only a few drawings of fashion designs, scattered on top.
Underneath, they were all the same.
She had virtually stayed awake all night, and she had spent it sketching the car accident.
Chen Cuihua noticed as well and looked at her questioningly. “Are you okay? Did you draw this for fun?” The street in the drawing was unfamiliar, with towering skyscrapers she had never seen in their city.
She studied the drawing more closely. The more she looked, the more uneasy it made her feel. The grim realism and impact of the scene felt almost immersive.
“Yeah!” Perhaps her memory of that moment was so deeply etched that she had drawn it repeatedly.
Nan Fei came back to her senses. She glanced at the shadowy figure in the corner of the street, then at the man rushing out from the gate, calming her racing heart.
Together, they cleaned up the sketches from the floor. Chen Cuihua took the fashion designs, while Nan Fei tore up the rest and threw them in the trash can.
After getting ready, Chen Cuihua invited Nan Fei to lunch as a token of gratitude.
Nan Fei didn’t decline, accepting the invitation graciously.
