VALENCIA’S POV
I was shaking. My body was still trembling a little from the aftermath of what I saw.
No. I wasn’t talking about the broken shards of glass or the fact that someone threatened me again. This is starting to become my new normal these days.
I was anxious because of the dream I had.
I wouldn’t call it a nightmare.
This wasn’t the first time I saw it either. However, it never held any meaning before today.
The feeling of loss has never been this prominent.
Could it be because now I knew I didn’t belong to the Hazel Moon pack, and the pack I saw practically burning was the one I belonged to?
Or could it be because I saw a couple handing over a baby to someone and telling them to protect this baby at all costs? And that couple almost died in front of me?
Rubbing my hands up and down my arms, I looked at the place where Maverick was standing, a strange paper in his hand.
"What is it?" I finally gathered the courage to ask, my heart starting to beat at a regular pace now.
As if surprised by my sudden words, rather than telling me what it was, he crumpled the paper and stuffed it in his pocket.
"It’s a threat again, isn’t it?" I asked with a sad sigh.
"You don’t need to worry about that. I won’t let anything happen to you," Maverick walked to me before he held my hand and pulled me from under the table.
I wasn’t someone who would hide away from problems, but with my head already a mess, this was the first time I hid from something or someone since I turned a rogue.
"Because of me, your life is also in constant danger. Rogues keep coming after me, and I am only adding more to your plate," I whispered, looking at my hands.
I was sounding pitiful, and he didn’t need to hear it.
It was also because of him that I was in this problem in the first place, but even after that, I wanted to say these words.
My heart was suddenly feeling sad, all mischievousness from earlier long gone.
"What are you talking about? It’s not you -" Maverick started to speak, but I interrupted him.
"It’s okay. I am leaving the area soon." I took a deep breath before I walked to the kitchen, where I kept the broom in the side cabinet.
I picked up the broom to clean the mess created by whoever it was and was about to begin when Maverick held my hand.
"What do you mean you are going to leave the place?" He asked.
I shrugged.
"I am returning to the council. It’s vacation time, and as someone who works for them, I have to visit them from time to time. Dylan and Carl are here, which leaves Uncle Jonathan alone. That’s why I am leaving," I said.
Maverick looked into my eyes for a few seconds.
"If you are worried because of this threat or because someone is following you or you feel like that, I will ensure your safety," He said, and I shook my head at him.
"Not this time. I got to go," I said, leaving no room for further discussion.
"Okay," he said after a few seconds.
’Is he really letting us go so easily?’ Aurora suddenly said, and I raised my brows.
What did she expect? For the strongest alpha to beg us to stay?
I scoffed at her and started to clean the area when Maverick took the broom from my hands and started doing it.
"What are you doing? It’s not your job to do. This is my house. I can do it," I said, and the man looked at me briefly before continuing.
He didn’t speak, and I kept looking at him, unsure of what he was trying at.
Once he was done, he looked at me.
"Did you see what I did here?" He asked me, and I furrowed my brows.

"You didn’t get the point," He said before washing his hands, wiping them dry, and walking to me.
"I do whatever I want, and I get whatever I want done. You can try to leave this area," He said, his thumb rubbing my chin softly as he looked into my eyes with the same predatory look.
Was he, by any chance, threatening us? I wondered and narrowed my eyes on him.
"I am going to leave this place, and that’s final," I said, and he chuckled.
"I will let you try doing it. And that’s final," he said.
The confidence in his eyes enraged me.
No one tells me what to do and what not to do.
He thinks he can stop me from doing whatever I want.
"I will show you how people can slip from under your nose. I guess you have been proud for too long since no one was ever able to do it. But just you see," I mumbled under my breath.
The man, who was about to pull out his phone, paused and looked at me as I glared at him.
He walked to me in long strides before grabbing the back of my neck and pulling me forward.
"I really try to be gentle with you, Valencia, but don’t you dare challenge me. I fucking like you and want you. And I will not allow anyone to come between you and me, not even you. Let this be my final warning to you. If you dared to run away from me, I am going to hunt you down, and when I do that, I will sink my teeth in this soft neck of yours and stake my claim on you, your body, your soul, and everything that belongs to you. You are fucking mine, and no one is changing that," Maverick nearly snarled at me.
I looked at him wide-eyed.
This was supposed to be a confession from him, right?
If yes, why was I feeling so hot and scared at the same time? My heart was beating very fast, but it wasn’t because I felt loved.
I mean, I was feeling that, but ...what the hell?
