When Zhan Hanjue finished a course of medication, Ye Ningwan ran to the study early in the morning to find him, waving her hand in front of him.
"What are you doing?"
Zhan Hanjue reached out and grabbed her hand.
It was soft and smooth to the touch, stirring the heart.
Ye Ningwan quickly pulled away and explained, "I wanted to see if it’s having any effect."
"No," Zhan Hanjue replied coldly.
"Impossible," Ye Ningwan frowned, "Seriously, not even a little effect? That’s not right!"
There should be some effect, it couldn’t possibly be none.
"What, you think I’m lying to you?" Zhan Hanjue put down his phone and removed an earphone to ask.
Ye Ningwan laughed awkwardly, "Of course not, I just think... Divine Doctor Bai Zhi is so skilled, it’s surprising to have no effect at all."
"What’s so surprising? She’s a doctor, not a deity. My eye injury is years old, it’s reasonable that it can’t be cured immediately," Zhan Hanjue said.
Ye Ningwan thought about it and agreed it made sense.
"We’ll go again this week and let the Divine Doctor check for you. Or, I could check for you myself, I’ve received guidance from the Divine Doctor," Ye Ningwan said, reaching out to examine him.
But Zhan Hanjue pushed her away mercilessly, "Go away, I don’t believe you."
"Hmph," Ye Ningwan pouted, walking away angrily.
Two days later, they went to the countryside again.
Having learned from the first trip, Chen Tan helped them open the car door, then waited outside obediently.
Ye Ningwan led Zhan Hanjue inside, back to the main hall.
"As usual, you wait here, I’ll go to another room, and then Divine Doctor Bai Zhi will come out to treat you. If there’s anything wrong, communicate clearly with the Divine Doctor, so she can prescribe accurately," Ye Ningwan instructed Zhan Hanjue.
Unexpectedly, Zhan Hanjue grabbed her wrist, "Can’t you stay with me?"
Ye Ningwan was stunned for a moment, then laughed, "You’re not a child, are you scared? I would love to stay, but the Divine Doctor has her rules, and I can’t break them."
"You can’t stay in the same room with her?" Zhan Hanjue asked.
Ye Ningwan’s heart skipped a beat, then she smiled, "Of course not, it’s just her medical skills aren’t to be shared. I’d love to share the room with her and learn. Sadly, I’m not qualified to become her apprentice yet."
Saying that, Ye Ningwan pushed Zhan Hanjue’s hand away and entered the room behind the bead curtain.
Quickly, someone walked out of another room.
Still wearing a fox mask and a cloak, with a hoarse voice, "I heard your eyes haven’t improved at all?"
Zhan Hanjue nodded, "Indeed, there has been no improvement. Perhaps the Divine Doctor could take another look."
"It shouldn’t be possible, let me see what’s wrong," Divine Doctor Bai Zhi approached, reaching out a wrinkled hand, prompting him to lean back slightly as she examined his eyes.
However, when she pried open his eyelids, she saw a pair of clear eyes.
His eyes reflected her image so clearly, how could he be unable to see?
Divine Doctor Bai Zhi was startled and immediately released her grip, her voice hoarse, "You can see, you lied to me."
She turned to leave, but Zhan Hanjue reached out, grabbed her wrist.
With a tug, Divine Doctor Bai Zhi fell backward, landing perfectly in his arms.
She struggled angrily.
Zhan Hanjue held her tightly by the waist, speaking in a low voice, "Why leave? Aren’t you going to examine my eyes thoroughly?"
"Your eyes can see, you deceived me," Divine Doctor Bai Zhi struggled.
In her anxious anger, she forgot to disguise her voice; it was clearly that of a bright-toned young girl, not an old woman.
"You’ve found out? Indeed, my eyes regained sight, thanks to the Divine Doctor’s miraculous skills," Zhan Hanjue said.
"Why did you lie to me?" Divine Doctor Bai Zhi couldn’t help but scold angrily.
But it didn’t add up. She hadn’t seen such clarity in his eyes before, how did it suddenly appear?
"Because I wanted to see the real face of the Divine Doctor," Zhan Hanjue reached to remove the mask from her face.
Bai Zhi immediately turned her head, not wanting him to take it off.
Perhaps the commotion was too loud, and someone heard from inside, running out.
But it wasn’t Ye Ningwan, it was Wu Taotao.
Seeing this scene, Wu Taotao froze, startled, "What are you doing?"
As she spoke, Zhan Hanjue had already forcibly turned Divine Doctor Bai Zhi around, removing the fox mask from her face.
Underneath the mask was an exquisitely beautiful face.
Not an elderly woman at all, clearly a pretty young girl.
"Ningning, I’m leaving, you handle it yourself."
Seeing Ye Ningwan exposed, Wu Taotao quickly made her escape.
Ye Ningwan bit her lip in frustration, yet couldn’t do anything, still being held and sitting on Zhan Hanjue’s lap, unable to resist.
"Ye Ningwan, your double act was impressive. I didn’t even know you could mimic voices," Zhan Hanjue snorted, releasing her.
Without that skill, it would have been impossible for her to play two roles; she truly was multi-talented.
Ye Ningwan immediately jumped off him, retreating continuously, her face alternating between shades of red and white in anger.
She hadn’t expected her identity to be revealed so soon.
"When did you know Bai Zhi was me?" Ye Ningwan asked.
It definitely wasn’t just now.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have pretended to be blind all along, deceiving even Ye Ningwan.
But she believed her disguise was excellent, knowing his sense of smell was keen. She had even changed the scent on her body and disguised one of her hands to feel like an elderly person’s, changing her voice to sound old.
She couldn’t fathom where she slipped up, allowing him to discover her.
"My eyes were never completely blind," Zhan Hanjue said. "The accident only damaged my vision, making it blurry, but not completely blind."
"So all along, you could see me. My face... the faucet incident was also deliberate, so I would be exposed?"
Ye Ningwan bit her lip, wishing she could just hit her head on something and die.
She prided herself on being a Divine Doctor, yet couldn’t discern whether the person next to her was truly blind or faking.
Instead, he had stripped away her disguise layer by layer, leaving her with no secrets.
Then she suddenly remembered something even more serious.
She had often assumed he couldn’t see anything and flaunted in front of him unclothed numerous times.
"So, you saw everything?" Ye Ningwan asked, her face pale.
Seeing her expression, Zhan Hanjue knew what she was referring to. He kept silent and, with a stern face, tacitly agreed.
Ye Ningwan’s vision went black, and she almost fainted.
Wu Taotao popped her head in again, curiously asking, "Ningning, saw what?"
