Betrayed by Husband, Divorced when Pregnant Chapter 145

Kelly’s POV

I woke up at 4 AM. I slept on the couch and since it’s big, I had a good and comfortable sleep. I went to the common bathroom and washed my face. I tied my hair in a messy bun before I went to the kitchen and started cooking breakfast. After cooking, I decided to go jogging. After leaving a note on the dining table, I locked the door of Emily’s apartment and went to the elevator. I put my earbuds on and stretched my arms.

The thing I heard last night while talking to Pierce was still lingering in my mind. I can’t forget it.

The pain and disappointment I felt when I heard her voice in the background. It was so heartbreaking. I understand that we have no relationship but he gave me his assurance. He told me that he’ll wait for me. He told me that...he’s in love with me.

If this is another misunderstanding, I don’t know what to do anymore.

The neighborhood was clean and silent. I jogged for almost 30 minutes and was walking back to the condominium tower when I saw Luke at the other side of the road. He was wearing a black hoodie. He waved at me and crossed the road. However, a fast car suddenly appeared and ran over him.

I was shocked. The impact was so loud and hard that I jumped in shock and was rooted to my place.

The car didn’t stop. And some people who witnessed the accident, even the security of the condominium, immediately ran towards Luke’s body in the middle of the road.

I couldn’t move. I was staring at him, lying and showered with his own blood. His eyes were open and he’s looking my way.

“L-Luke...”

“Call an ambulance! He needs help! Someone!”

My lips and hands trembled as I slowly tried to walk towards him. I felt tears rolling down my cheeks as I stopped in front of him. I couldn’t think straight. I was looking at his body. He’s not moving. His eyes were open. Blood was coming out of his head and mouth.

I cupped my mouth when everything sinked into my mind. Someone ran over him and it’s definitely not an accident.

“Luke!” I called with trembling lips. I kneeled beside him but I couldn’t even touch him. I don’t know what to do. My mind was in chaos. I can’t think straight.

I was just looking at him until I heard the ambulance coming. I rode the ambulance with him and while the medic was trying to revive him, I was holding his hand.

Luke was the first to discover about my child. He has always been on my side. He’s a good friend and a loyal companion.

My cries intensified when we reached the hospital and the doctors announced him dead on arrival.

This can’t be! He can’t die like that! He’s a good man! No! No! Who did this? Who?

“We’re sorry, ma’am. We can’t do anything now.”

I gritted my teeth and slowly walked towards him. He was now covered with the white blanket, stained with his blood.

“Luke...” I whispered as I felt the pain in my heart.

“Ma’am, here’s his belongings.” The nurse handed me Luke’s watch, wallet and phone.

My hands trembled as I bit my bottom lip and stared at his phone. Did this happen because he was helping me?

I turned the phone on and scrolled on it. I looked at his call log and my heart raced after I saw the name of his younger brother. Oh God!

I scrolled on the call logs and I saw two unsaved numbers. I copied the numbers in my phone and checked the photos, messages and everything but there was none.

“Kelly!”

I sniffed and lifted my face. Emily was walking towards me with a worried face.

“Are you okay? I heard what happened from the security. Are you hurt?”

“He’s dead, Emily,” I said with full of hatred. “He was helping me and now he’s...”

“Shh! It’s not your fault.”

I shook my head. “I’m gonna need to talk to the police and find out who did this.”

She nodded and sighed. “I’ll take it from here. I’ll call his relatives.”

I swallowed hard and took a deep breath. “He...doesn’t have parents. He has a younger brother and a sister. I-I’ll talk to them later.”

“Don’t stress yourself too much, Kelly. Phoebe’s still with Snow. I told her not to stay while we’re gone.”

“I’ll leave for a while, Emily.”

“Be careful.”

I nodded before I left. I rode a taxi while my clothes were still stained with Luke’s blood. I had no time to change. I want to know how and why this happens. Luke won’t show up unless it’s an emergency. His face was serious when I saw him this morning. I know he wants to say something but he wasn’t given a chance.

“Good morning, I’m Kelly Monroe. I want to know who’s in charge of the accident in front of Paradise Residences. The victim was a friend of mine.”

One officer lifted his arm. “Miss Monroe, here.”

I walked towards him. He was looking at the printed photos of the road stained with Luke’s blood.

I took a deep breath after I looked at it.

“It was a white car,” I said and looked at the police officer.

He nodded. “Yes, ma’am. It was caught in the CCTV footage but the car doesn’t have a plate no.”

“What?!” I shook my head and grabbed my hair. “That’s impossible! You must be mistaken. There should be a plate number.”

That’s impossible!

“We’re still investigating, ma’am. You can leave your contact so we can update you about the investigation.”

I sucked my breath and bit my bottom lip. “How about the driver?”

“The driver was caught in the CCTV but he’s wearing a mask and a hoodie, ma’am.”

“Damn it!” I cursed so loud and looked at him. “Officer, please help us. We need to catch the culprit.”

“We’re doing our best, ma’am," the police officer assured me.

I won’t let this slide. I have people in my mind. It could be Klay. Could be Connor Foster. Maybe Sara Foster or her husband? I don’t know. All I know is I won’t let Luke’s death fall in vain. I will seek justice and will never stop. Mom, dad and Luke deserve justice and I will give it to them.
